Do you guys have a machine/tool to reset tire pressure sensors?

If so, how much does this cost to reset?

I've heard dismounting runflats are a pain in the ***, is this true?

Is 18" and 19" wheels considered oversized?

Lastly, I have 4 new tires and 4 new wheels. I need to have the original tires dismounted from the original wheels and transfer the tire pressure sensors to the new wheels. Then I need to have the new tires mounted and balanced on the new wheels and have the tire pressure sensors reset. How much would this cost?

Any of you work at the Alvin, Pearland, League City, or Webster location(s)?

Yes, that is about $190-200. I've done exactly this a few times already. I think I'll buy a tire mounting machine for my next shop.

 

Discount did that for me on my last truck. Most newer GM use a rubber stem TPMS sensor that generally has to be replaced when swapped. I think they were $5 ea for new ones. Then about 20 a wheel to dismount the factory 17s, pull the tpms, and mount and balance the new 20s. But I bought the tires through discount...

Im an Assistant Manager at Discount Tire Co. in League City. TPMS (Tire Pressure Montoring System) Reset is free of charge. The labor to swap over sensors is normally 200 or so

 

too bad your not here in college station i would probably do it for free just for **** and giggles, all you have to do is break the top bead down and pull the sensor out.

since your swapping tires and sensors id say about 200, at least that what you would pay at the dealership, im assuming its on the vette? be careful if the sensors are not the rubber type many people break them when breaking the bead, all you need to do is take of the nut on the valve stem and push them into the tire to save them...

I don't know what type of sensors they have inside the wheel. Should I take the nut off and push them into the wheel as suggested or does anyone know what type of sensors are used in the Corvette wheels? I certainly don't want to break them.

Sensors - If I put the sensors back in the same spot, will they still need to be reset? In other words, put the sensors in the same location on the new wheels as they were on the old wheels.

 

The sensors with the nut are much easier. You just loosen the nut, push it through and reinstall in the new wheel. Its completely resusable unlike the rubber stem tpms.

 

IF this is a corvette. Discount charged me just over $100 to put new tires oin my moms vette. I didnt buy the tires from discount.

runflat tires have stiffer sidewalls, mounting runflat tires are easy.

 

I would leave the tpms nuts on, and let the changers do what they want to do with them. If you push the tpms inside the tire, you'll have to dismount it completely to get it out, but if it's still bolted down, you can usually just break the top bead, hold the bead under the sensor (we have a pneumatic arm for this), undo the nut and take the tpms off without taking the tire off at all.
Also, fwiw, if they break it, they'll replace it. We have a bunch of sensors in the shop for just that occasion

Discount Tire should reset your sensors for free. I'm not positive on all the types of cars you need to reset them on, but I know my store always does it for free (it takes 2 minutes tops), so I don't think you should worry too much about putting them back where they came off. Most cars seem to reset by themselves after driving a while (with the right air pressure).


Runflats have really stiff sidewalls and are a bitch in my experiences, lol. It's a good workout for sure though.
Dunno much about prices yet, but looks like you got some locals that should be able to help you out. Post pics when it's all done.

Most sensors not always need to be manually reset since the car updates them usually every 15 minutes at most. For swapping it is best to leave the sensors mounted for easier removal since all you need to do is break the top bead of the wheel and tire and then pull the sensor out. Run flats I have always cursed at when at work cause of the pain in the **** sidewall that never wants to flex (granted most runflats I work on are 30-35 series sidewalls which are already a bitch to pull on and off).

 

hey guys took them to my shop and got it done in about 45 minutes wasn t no trouble at all and didnt even charge him lol but got a tip out of it but they look great and he will post pics when he gets them on the car

 

what kinda wheels did you get jeremy? Im thinking you got the rear fenders on.
