I always thought Michelangelo's was a nice place for romantic occasions. Its cozy and quaint. You could eat very well for $150 there.

If you really really want a proffesional opinion try to get a hold of Alison Cook (Restaurant Critic) with The Houston Chronicle and ask her to give you a reccomendation, then ask if you can name drop when placing the reservation, lol this is the general email to contact her but im sure she has a personal work email that you might be able to get with some detective work. dine.features@chron.com, or just take a wild shot and email: alison.cook@chron.com or A.cook@chron.com or cook.alison@chron.com

Mark's was insane when I went there for my old gf's homecoming like 5 years ago, especially since i didn't pay. So was Taste of Texas...theres also a more laid back place off of the BW8 on the northside with a big Sam Houston Statue...dont rem the name of it though.
