This was the conversation. He said "Sir, I pulled you over tonight because I was driving behind you and saw you had no mufflers. Do you have mufflers on this vehicle?" I said, "Yes sir. I have 2 of them." So he leaned down real quick and glanced under (it was night) it and said, " No, there are no mufflers on there, would you like to show them to me? " So me already pissed off because he randomly searched my car adnd gave me a sobriety test for no reason ( previously like 7 months ago. Another lon stupid BS story that I got to go on)said , " Sure." I got out walked around to the side and got down on my side; so did he. He pointed his flashlight directly at my bullets and I pointed at them and said, " Right there, they are Dynomax bullets, they are basically glass packs." He stood up and said, " No, those are not mufflers." And I said, "Well, what are they?" He said, " Exhaust extensions." I said, " Ok, whatever." And I started to get in my car and he said, " Where did you buy them?" I said, "Jegs." I got back in my car and he preceded to his car with my license. He came back (after he called for back up) and said, " Sir, I am writing you a citation for no mufflers on this vehicle. Oh and by the way, whatever idiot convinced you that those are mufflers is sadly mistaken. That exhaust tone sounds good for a race car but not on your car, because it isn't a race car." I said, " Ok. Whatever."

I would have said "oh, actually..."
jk
but seems like his definition of muffler may be off. Just have to research the laws. May spend cash fighting it but Id do it if you have the time/money

if you represent yourself remember not to get angry when the lawyer gets naggy, and make sure you present your pictures correctly like say "this is a picture of my mufflers taken on such and such date that clearly shows the mufflers *type* bought from the Jegs website which I have the item description here printed from their website on *date*" I learned both lessons the hard way

Yea, thats kind my intentions. I hope to be able to talk to the judge before we go to court. I hope she'll just dismiss it. I don't know if she will or not.

even if those are legally considered to be 'mufflers', your exhaust doesnt exit 'after the passenger compartment' of the vehicle... i'd be weary about showing pictures of the exhaust dumped before the axle. i'd definitely bring the manufactures part descriptions with your to court... but if you want to bring in pics of the install, i'd rig up some temporary pipes running past the axle.

I didn't think they could get me for that? Just because...I dunno. Cause they can't.

Im not trying to be disrespectful towards the original poster, but you got the ticket, and its more than likely not going to get dropped unless you play your cards right. Maybe if you wouldnt have made smart *** comments to a POLICE OFFICER... you may have gotten off with a warning. Your exhaust is illegal, in more ways than you where cited for. Thats already been stated. Next time, you might want to say something like " I know its pretty loud, officer, and Im trying to figure out a way to quiet it down..." At least try to comply, even if its not what you really believe, you have to remember whom you are dealing with. Even if this guy is a dick, thats all the more reason to comply. Yes sir, No sir, I just put the exhaust on and Im saving money to put a less noisy system on it blah blah. Just dont argue is my point.

And its amazing that your upset about being given a field sobriety test after the " yeah Ive been drinking! Water!" comment. A simple " no sir" could have easily avoided that.
Again im not trying to be rude to you man, just practice a little common sense and show some respect to officers. It goes a long way.

Bringing pictures to court isn't going to work. Your best bet, as stated above would be to bring in a manufactures description of the mufflers stating they are 50 state legal or whatever. That and mentioning the wrong date may give you a sliver of hope, but just expect to pay the fine and learn from it. You may mention to the judge that you saving up for a different, more compliant exhaust, and that a ticket is just going to prolong the switch. Dont mention "well what about all these obnoxious diesels running out town?" Its irrelevant and wont amount to anything. Dont tell them the officer was picking on you, they wont feel any pitty, they have heard it all before. You need to let the judge know that YOU know the exhaust is too loud, and you will be correcting the problem as soon as possible. Nothing more. Let them know also that it was your understanding that the mufflers where legal at the time of purchase, and that you UNDERSTAND they are causing a problem, and again, that your going to comply and correct the problem. IMO, thats your best bet.

Heres whats going to happen, and heres what you should do

1. Judge calles your # and ask, what is your plea.
2. You say" I would like to contest the ticket.
3.(judge) Lets hear your arguments... something along those lines...
4.(you) Show your documents, explain how it was your understanding that they would be legal to use. POLITELY explain, that you now understand that they are being a nusance and you are aware that the noise levels are unexeptable, and that you are currently gathering funds to replace them with a more civiliezed exhaust sytem that wont cause any further problems. ( Ive been in the same spot man, they may ask if you street race, so bring some time slips if you have any to further show your compliance with the law) You might mention that you gave concent to a search to show your compliance, they may bring that up as well. Dont say he was being unreasonable or being a dick, or rude, or whatever. You might hand the judge your copy of the citation and mention ONLY once that the date is wrong, and say nothing more about that. They prob wont give a damn. But it may or may not help. Its pretty much a mute point, but Ive gotten a ticked droped due to the ticket saying my car was white, when it was silver. ( it was also for 3mph over lol)

Lastley, if it dosnt look like its turning in your favor, you could mention to the judge you have the money and you can pay for the ticket, or you could use it to purchase the new exhaust asap so that there wont be any further violations/ problems.

Again, even if you dont plan on changing anything, you need to show you enderstand why you where cited and that its being corrected.

Good luck, and dont take what I said personal. Where all members of the great little community and where all here to help and laugh.

Josh.

Yea I guess it could have been. I don't remember the wheels. I thought it had TT2's on it though. Maybe not. I have not seen a T/a with Prostars. Hell I have seen an old man in a Red WS6, a guy in a black WS6, a white SS, and a red SS. But they are all very close to stock. There aren't many fast "street" cars here, that I have seen. Maybe I am blind. I think there is one guy with a twin turbo red c5 vette. But thats just rumors that I have heard.

Josh.
Ok. Well 7 months ago when he searched my car and what not, he was a ***** to me. I was standing there being very compliant holding my cup of water, and he was already being rude. Like you know I could impound your car just because. And I was just like Ok. Then when he said sir have you been drinking? (His tone, if you knew the guy you would understand. ) Then when he pulled me over the other night, I knew I was getting a ticket. (Again you don't know this guy and he has one hell of a rep.) He is a ***** to even the nicest people. Thats one I am saying I was damned if I did, and damned if I didn't. I agree with what you are saying except that this guy is a real POS. By boss and upstanding figure in the town with lots of connections says the same thing. So, I guess the consensus is fight it and then get another ticket for something worse, or pay it and keep driving the way it is?

Oh I don't take **** personal. Well on here. On DFWstangs some of those guys make you want to send letter bombs to their houses.
