Default Why should I move to Texas

Here's the skinny...

My fiance and I live in DC. She is an accountant but was just layed off. I am an Assistant Property Manager, but I have over 5 years in automotive previously. Although real estate has treated me ok, I want to get back in the dealership.

Anyway, we're sick of the melting pot here. People are stuck up and only care about themselves. We want to be around down to earth people who know how to have fun by letting loose. You all seem to be pretty happy down there, so I guess this describes you. Correct me if I'm wrong

We're also over this retarded traffic. It takes an hour to go 10 miles during rush hour.

Home prices - we pay 1550/mo for a 1005 sqft 1 bedroom loft apartment. You can't get **** for under $500k - unless you move 30 miles out, but then you sit in this **** traffic.

I've been looking at the DFW area. How's the economy for accountants and service writers/managers?

We'd prefer to live in a more rural/suburban area. We don't want to live in the city, but be close enough to commute in. Would a 30 minute commute be like 20 miles away? Is that really far from everything?

Basically, where would you all suggest for nice areas to live?

What do you all like about Texas? If you weren't born there, what drew you there?

What are the negatives?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Come on down to Houston the economy is slow but not as bad as most still some jobs out here. Never have snow warm and hot all year 2 day winters. Oh did I mention we have some kick *** tracks Houston Raceway park 1/4mile Houston Motorsports park 1/8mile. I see your in real estate just look up the stats people are still buying houses here and for your wife I know she will land a accountant job. Like the saying goes not a native TEXAN but got here as fast as I could. Good luck and for the fiddle it's not required but will make things easier lol.

You're not going to believe what's available down here for considerably less. My wife and I just bought a 1800 sq.ft. 2 story house and our monthly payment is considerably less than the 1550/month your paying on the one bedroom loft apt.

Yeah, the summers here are hot but that's a small price to pay to drive your hotrod year round, just slow down in the rain. Seems like a lot of numbskulls think 60 is still ok with an inch of water on the road.

i moved here for the economic oppurtunity. one of the better housing and job markets in the country. i bought an 1850sq ft house two years ago, and my payments are like $1120/mo including taxes and insurance.

you can drive your f-body year round, dont have to worry about rock salt destroying your cars. compared to boston, there are NO cops here. i'd see more cops in the boston suburbs in one day than i'll see here in a few months. people drive extremely slow and discourteously here, but at night you can drive fast if you want.

...and the chicks are hot

Outsiders are going to have to start applying for Texas citizenship. You'll have to take a test to see if you fit in. Unless you move to Austin. We had a couple of blue counties last election so that's enough.

readin this post makes me miss texas. My wife and I moved to Louisiana 6 months ago, and I can't wait to move back in a few years. Funny I still speak Spanish to these cajuns here sometimes. The food in Texas is still best I've ever had, but damn, they got some good food here too. As far as DC.... dude.. move to Texas. period. you'll never look back
