Thumbs up Fellow LS1Tech'er and LS1 enthusiast needs your help....

Hi there LS1 enthusiasts. I wanted to take a moment and let you know that our LS1 family has a boardmember who is not in the greatest health condition. His name is Shaun Toombs, aka Z4 Performance. He has been an active member until about last year. In February 2008, he was diagnosed with a particular brain tumor. He has been through several rounds of chemo and radiation treatments. Because of those treatments, he does get sick and does not get to come out much to events and GTG's.

The type of Brain tumor that he has is a Stage 4 GBM, glioblastoma multiforme. It is inoperable because it is in the most important part of his brain where his entire nervous system comes together, and it would kill him if they even tried. The tumor has shrunk in size, however it does have strands attached to the tumor, like tentacles, that have attached themselves to nerves that controls his motor skills. We are trying to raise money for him to be admitted to MD Anderson located in Houston to have the best treatment that he can get. If there is a way to kill those tentacles, we could prove science wrong. There is not a cure for this kind of cancer/tumor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glioblastoma_multiforme

Mr.Klean has been friends with Shaun for many years. I have known Shaun and his wife Monica (Monica Z28) for the past five years. We have all been friends and may have shared our differences, but they are family. I am putting together a benefit for Shaun to help him get the best treatment possible. He does not have medical insurance and we are trying to raise money for him to be admitted to one of the best hospitals in TX that can help him with this tumor, MD Anderson, which is located in Houston.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Uni..._Cancer_Center

This benefit will be held at:
Speedzone in Dallas
11130 Malibu Drive
Dallas TX 75229
972-247-RACE x7100

www.speedzone.com

Date: April 12th 2009*

Time: 11:00 am.

I have contacted Speedzone and they are willing to help us. We will have a parking lot to ourselves where everyone can park. If you could, please drive your vehicle if you can. Shaun would love to see all the cars and trucks. I will have SpeedZone passcards for sale for $42.00. Twenty two dollars covers the price of the card, the other $20 will go straight to Shaun's benefit for MD Anderson. The Speedzone card would be for 3 hours of all you can race, roller coaster ride, games (excludes games that give you tickets) and miniature golf. You do not have to be there at 11 am. Your card will be activated once you go inside and activate it. I wanted to do this at 11am because this is a not so busy time for Speedzone. Please RSVP by Wednesday April 8th 2009 with how many cards you would like to purchase. ALL the tracks will be open!

*If this is a bad weather day, it will be moved to April 18th 2009 at 11am

There will be a silent auction for a 4 hour All You Can Race, Ride, Play pass, whoever donates the most amount of money will receive this pass that you can use at a later date.

If you cannot make this event, but would like to donate, I do have a paypal account. If you are interested, please PM and use the Subject line in the PM as Paypal Account.

Thank you for helping out. Monica and Shaun GREATLY appreciate all your help.

-Mrs.Klean

I will see ya'll there!

When I get a paypal address I will post it up.

Even if you can only donate $5.00 or less that will help. Medical bills are expensive and he has a loss of income due to the brain cancer. He is a good guy and would give his shirt off his back for someone else in a heartbeat!

Mike,
Did Shaun used to have the screen-name ST30THZ4? I believe this is the same guy, right? I am pretty sure his wife's name was Monica too, and Shaun and I used to race often at Kennedale a few years ago with his Camaro. Thanks for the info. It is much appreciated.

Yes, he is st30thz4 on this board. Same guy you always raced... It's been a rough year for him, and me too. He just didn't want anyone to know for a long time, because he wanted to live life like normal... But that just isn't possible any more.

Any help is very much appreciated by both of us. His treatments are very expensive, and if we get him into MD Anderson, it's even more expensive... We just can't do it by ourselves.

Monica,
I am very sorry you two have been in my prayers for a while now. He told me back in April last year and I remember you two are very nice, kind-hearted people. Sean and I will be there at the Event and will make a donation, 100% going to his treatments. My husband and I understand what you are going through, and I hope many people give to this very important cause.

Thank all of you, we do absolutely appreciate any help that we can get!
I posted up the whole story on another board, and thought some people might be interested in what happened over here, so here it is...

We were 4 wheeling one Sunday, at the beginning of February last year, and when we got back, Shaun was feeling real weird. Like dizzy and his right arm was going numb. So I kept thinking he pinched a nerve or something in his neck or was having a stroke maybe, so he went to the doctor, and the doctor said he didn't see anything, and just to be safe, go get an MRI. Well, he and I both brushed it off thinking it was no big deal... Of course, I went to the drug store and got all kinds of stuff, Advil, Icy Hot, all kinds of stuff, convinced it was something from 4 wheeling. But as the week went on, he started slurring his speech, had double vision, couldn't even walk. So we got him to the emergency room to get an MRI done, and the entire day they were telling him they thought it was a herniated disc, which at the time, we thought was just horrible but made sense to me... until they got the MRI results back, and told him he had this tumor in his brain stem, and the doctor said there was nothing he could do for him. So he was transferred fom Baylor to Parkland, and they gave him steroids, which took away almost all of his symptoms. He was there for a week, the most horrible week of both our lives...

Since then, he's been through radiation and has had 4 different types of chemo treatments. Everything about him was just as usual except he has never gotten rid of the numbness on his right side, like you could split him in half, and he was numb on the right side of that line all the way from face to toe. And he hasn't been able to work since his diagnosis because of the treatments. Back in September, we got SO excited because his tumor was shrinking, and things were going great... They were going to stop chemo finally in a couple months, and just keep an eye on the tumor. But he never got to stop treatment because in December, he started having double vision, and started going numb in his left arm as well. Until then, he could do almost anything just as normal. He was driving, 4 wheeling, everything... But he has now lost a lot of his functions, like walking, can not hear anymore, and has double vision a lot of the time. The doctors can not see that the tumor is growing, so some think what is happening is a result of the radiation, a condition called radiation necrosis, where the radiation kills a lot of good brain cells, but the treatments they gave him for that didn't help at all, which makes them and me think that the cancer is webbing out from the tumor.

The doctors at Parkland have no more options for Shaun, and the only thing we know to do is try to get him into MD Anderson, but it's so expensive, and they want $12,500 just to get started if they think they can help him. So that is where we're at now...

Ok guys and gals, I wanted to give you guys an update.

Shaun had his last Chemo treatment from Parkland on Friday. Since there is nothing that Parkland has to offer him, except Chemo, they have told him that he needs to find some other means of treatment. Monica is speaking with several specialist about what other options that he has. But because some of the other options are vey expensive, Shaun will not be able to do the treatments until after the SpeedZone benefit. He is resting comfortably at home and is catching up on some well needed rest.

For those who would like to purchase SpeedZone Passes and do not want to use the PAYPAL Account:

Mr.Klean and I will be holding a "Drop Off" Party at our apartment on Friday April 10th from 7:30-11:30 pm. During this time you can come over, chit chat, sign a Get Well Soon Card for him, and drop off your money for the Speedzone passes or donation money. Your name will be put on an envelope with the number of passes that you bought. Your passes will be available to you on Sunday at Speedzone when you arrive. We will have a special parking area for the cars that would like to be put in a many car show. We will have a little area setup to pick up your cards. Your cards will be activated when you swipe it at ANY track or video game. Once you have swiped the card, the timer starts and cannot be turned off.
Speedzone does have a cafe that you can eat and drink at. They have a full menu that you can order from at very inexpensive prices.

Please contact me through PM or email robin_lindley@adp.com for the "Drop Off Party" address.
I will not have any extra cards available on the day of the Event. So please if you are wanting to come, please make sure you contact me no later than April 10th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! I hope to see everyone there!

It's actually raining over here in Richardson, not sure if this has been moved to next week? No worries, just give my card away if not, and good luck / best wishes to Shaun.

Since we were rained out yesterday, the event has moved to Sunday April 19th 2009 at 11 am.
