The Camaros be hot for a little while until the new wears off, but the $30K price tag on a V6 is going to hurt GM's sales long-term. $35K for the V8 version? No problem. Those should sell pretty well.
Correct...The premium GT sales right around 29-30K range new. The current mustang body style does absolutely nothing for me, it is however selling quite well. GM will have a hard time taking a slice of that pie, Ford never left the market, and GM as usual is late to the game.

That's the fully loaded rating. Not car weight.

Anybody bitching about the price must not have been new car shopping lately.

30K is right on target for what cars are going for. including V6's.

I mean, it has 20's for cripes sake.

incorrect...the 2010 GT will have 315 HP/325 TQ, not to mention the GT is lighter on the scales at/around 3400-3500 pounds (depends on options). Albeit the power advantage is minimal, but with the stang being less of a porker and producing more hp/tq, it won't being getting trounced in stop light battles with 6 banger camaros anytime soon. Price is another factor, the standard GT cost 27k with the premium starting at 29-30K. As already stated, GM will have a hard time taking a slice of fords pie after the new wears off the Camaro, its late to the game and priced a bit high. I realize inflation and 7 years makes a difference, but it should still be a noted you could have had a loaded t-top Z/28 with all options for 27K in 2002. Sales of the V6 pony car is what keeps the brand afloat, regardless of it being a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro. This is where ford has beaten Chevrolet in the past is set to do so again. In any case, I thought Chevy had a base V6 camaro starting around 22-23K? A 300 HP base camaro sans the luxury options would put them in the hunt for sure...

My friend just paid $26,750 for a brand new fully loaded (minus sunroof) Pontiac G8 GT.

I like the new Camaros (would never own a V6 Camaro or Mustang so the V6 pricing doesn't matter to me), but $35K is about what you can get a very low mileage well equipped 07 Corvette for. The LS3 Vettes will be down to that number in the next year, so it would be hard for me to purchase a 2010 Camaro.
GM will probably have to start discounting these things pretty heavily in 6 months or so.

You guys understand that the V6 for 30k is a FULLY LOADED/EVERY OPTION model RS right? The V6 starts at around 20k....just sayin. The 1SS can be bought for 30k bare ss model.

Edit: Base LS V6 model starts at 22k, which is a dam steal for what you are getting.

How is it not a Camaro? Looks more like the original then a 4th gen does....

I think you guys need to realize that GM always jacks up the window sticker. In reality there is always some promotion, rebate, sale, etc going on to knock a few thousand off that number.

Out of curiosity, I went to the Ford web site and did a build and price on a new Mustang V6. With all of the most expensive options picked, I was able to get the price up to just over $33K. So, if $30K is truly the price for a fully-loaded V6 Camaro, hats off to GM! I hope they sell like crazy. Trouble is, $30K is $30K. The V8 versions are not the ones GM needs to be banking on. They need to sell the less expensive V6s in high volume.

I hope I'm wrong about my pessimism. I want GM to succeed. I probably wouldn't have purchased a Vette had I not had some belief in GM's ability to make good cars. I just have a bad feeling the Camaro isn't going to do well.

I doubt they'll come down much, especially at first. It's the hot new item.
