If all you care about is straightline performance, the WS6 might be cheaper to mod, depending on how far you want to go with it.
If you want a car that handles better, rides better, and is just a more refined car overall, get the Vette.
I sold my Camaro a few months ago and got into an '06 C6 Z51. It is a COMPLETELY different animal. So much more responsive and fun to drive. I spent a ton of money on the Camaro to make it handle the way I wanted it to. The Vette does that right out of the box. No mods necessary. There's a lot to be said for that.

I own both... do the Vette and don't look back.
My vette is fun to drive and puts down only 314 to the ground... yet my TA can make 460 on motor and feel no faster.
Muscle car vs sports car. Vette is a true sportscar. handles amazing.

Ya its just so tuff. If I get the vette it might kinda suck knowing its not the best vette I can have. But if I get the ws6 I will know its the best f body ever made and a car thats still respected. Just sucks it takes a heads/cam ws6 to hang with a bolton ls2 vette. But with the vette I wont have to worry about window motors...headlights....and the rear end breaking
if you care about straight line performance.. the c5z is your choice... it is top dog for the money by far... you can find them all day long for 20k... thats less than 60k miles and in damn good shape.. bone stock to very very litely modded..

Trans Am is not a sports car. It's a muscle car. And it doesn't matter what you do to a Trans Am, it will never handle as good as a stock LS2 C6 (especially a Z51). If you want a sports car, get a Vette. No question. This is coming from someone who has owned both a '99 Trans Am and a 2006 Z51 Vette.

Yep. HP to weight ratio. C5Z has the advantage stock for stock. But put a Vararam on the LS2 C6, and that gap is closed. Or get an A6 LS2, and there's no way you are going to shift faster with your manual. My 2006 coupe was an A6. But the Vette is not about the 1/4 mile. It's a sports car meant to hit the twisties. I can't wait to get out to TWS to really see what this C6Z can do.
As for C5Z versus LS2 C6 looks, it's a matter of personal preference. But I believe the C6 has more traditional Vette curves. I personally didn't like the C6 with its chopped off butt when I first saw it. It quickly grew on me, especially with the updated interior. It's a great car. The Z06 I have now, God willing, will be with me the rest of my life. I love this car. Not getting the manual trans in my '06 was a mistake. I really missed rowing the gears.
