New to the F body :) Exhaust Questions
Hey all I live north of dfw and just got a 98 ss a couple of days ago. I recently sold my 99 mustang gt which had an o/r mid pipe and bassani mufflers. I loved the sound with no cats. I would really like to start out by getting a set of lt's and an o/r midpipe. Im really worried about passing emissions. When i had my mustang i simply would just swap out the o/r midpipe with the stock one and go pass emissions. Is there a similar thing i can do with my camaro. Or will the y pipe be welded to the lt's. I also dont want to have to deal with the check engine light coming on, i know i can just tune it out but will i pass emissions by tuning them out. Im also planning on getting a cam after all major bolt-ons are complete in the near future. Would having cats play much of a roll performance wise.
thanks

Catalytics, when high flow, probably only cost a few HP... it's really negligible. There are off-road Y-pipes that you can swap catalytics in/out of (like FLP's and a few others.) That way you don't have to swap out the entire Y-pipe.

I'm not sure if FLP makes them anymore, you may have to search for a used one. I think there may be other companies that do a similar setup, if not, you can always have one custom made.

would like to point out that if you dont have cats you lay some torque on the line... High flow cats are awsome... give you torque and dont cost too much hp.... Of cource this is only if you have a very high flow catback like slp loudmouth.

slp loudmouth 1 is very loud. i hear a lot of ppl complaining about the drone and rasp but i have just as many tell me how much they love it. i went from an ory to hi-flows, but i only did it for a better tone..i already tuned out the check engine light problem. i never had a problem passing inspection with the ory after the tune, just didnt like the sound.

short answer: there is no bolt on off road y pipe that will work on the 98-99 manifolds, the stock header on the drivers side is welded to the cat then the cat bolts to the y pipe.
so you would need to have a custom y pipe made with the cats and one without the cats to sawp in and out

If your going catless say find a place that'll pass you on a visual. Going catless has it's ups and downs you just got to figure what's going to be best in the long run.
Also I've got a cheap hooker Lt&ypipe I'd sell
