That doesn't make any sense. It only happens after it's shifted into second. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. It also doesn't matter if I'm babying it or not. It still does it if I'm just cruising very easily.

You may try posting this over in the auto tranny section, the guys over there are really helpful. Not sure about early shifting, but with a shifting problem it could be the 1-2 solenoid or accumulator. I am also having a problem with the 1-2 shift on my LT1 Vette and I think it to be a problem with the accumulator.

Should I take it to a transmission shop? I had this reputable guy in town rebuild the transmission in my old LT1 Z28. I bought a pro-built racing rebuild kit and he did the labor. How would they charge to replace what's wrong?

I've done the shift solenoids before, and they are very easy, just drop the pan, pull the pins and they come right out. I have not done the accumulator before, but it looks just as easy. If you have a guy you trust, have him put it on a scanner and road test it and maybe it will be something simple/inexpensive.

That's a job I'd rather pay someone else to do. lol.

Well, I got the transmission back last night. I bought this kit and the three options at the bottom. The labor was $750, and I got a rebuilt torque converter for $150. Sometimes, it seems like the same issue is still there. Sometimes, I get what feels like a premature 1-2 jerk when I'm not really getting on the accelerator. Other times when I'm going very easy on the accelerator there's a nice, smooth 1-2 shift. Should I take it back and have him look for something?

Yeah. I do. I had one in my old '95 Z28. I suppose I have to get used to it again in the 1-2 shift. It seems like it starts to be a noticeably more firm shift around 2K. I guess I just wasn't expecting it.
Now, there's some kind of rattle going on under the hood, too. Also, I'm pouring coolant out everywhere, too. Right before I came in a few minutes ago, I tried to see if there was a burst hose, but I didn't see anything. Could a bad water pump make all that racket, the rattle I'm hearing?

the problem is usually caused by wear in what gm calls "the control valve body". basically it causes a harsh 1-2 shift, and often trips the p1870 engine code. this condition can be fixed by installing a shift kit, transgo # sk4l60e. my car has the same problem, and the code. been driving it like this for 9 months now with no real issues except it tries to spin out in the rain every now and then :/

had same problem with mine , but mine will not go into 3 or 4th gear , they told me to change the shift solenoid , and that was not it , then the engine sensor? look at ur manuel for solenoids and u will find it . Mine was blown out replace it work for a while and then gave out again. Then I bought a built transmission and fix my issues lol ...
