40 is the size of the lense on the muzzel end, in MM. The bigger the size of the lense the more light it allows in, and more clarity is the result.

Without ordering ammo, where do plan to go get off the shelf ammo for the mosin? It shoots a 7.62x54. I know with a 30 06 you can go to Academy and get ammo off the shelf. I have never seen that ammo except at gun shows or ordering online. Just something to consider.

You can pick up 7.62x54 @ Cabella's, Bass Pro, or Cheaper than Dirt just to name a few places up here.

Ok, Bass Pro has a few stores, but not like Academy. Cabelas are few an far between. Cheaper than dirt is online. How much is it for 20 rounds?

bought 440 rounds with the gun for an extra 80 bucks. cabellas and bass pro is only 20 min away so ammo isnt a problem. I ordered the gun, 440 rounds plus another 20 rounds and a cleaning kit for 200 shipped to the ffl which is charging me 20 bucks. so 220 for everything isnt to bad

CTD is in Ft. Worth. It's local for us.

dshag,
Were they FMJ rounds? I don't know any ranges that'll let you shoot them.

Military Gun Supply on the East side of Ft Worth off 820 has older military rifles, ammo and parts.

Lucky. I didnt realize. $220 with that much ammo seems like a good deal. You should have alot of fun with it.
