compressor is $300 plus i want to say $200 for install, but install is properly evacuating the system so you may want to do both things at once to be sure everything is done right if your just going to rush the job before you look for the UV leaks.
my compressor never "leaked" either you could just see a green ring around the seal on it under UV light

I haven't replaced mine yet in my current car.
My old '98 formula had an actual CRACK on the compressor and I swapped it for a used one. If I remember a used one normally runs in the $80-$100 range. I didn't do the dryer, etc tho... just had it evacuated/charged for another $60 or so and I was good.
The real issue here is that it doesn't make good sense to just throw parts at a problem when the parts are THIS expensive. You'll wind up spending more in the long run.
Thats how mine is. Where the 'halves" of the compressor are pressed together, you could see a ring of green.

Thanks for the input guys. I took it to this guy over by Lackland, where KellyAFB used to be. Took all day, thanks to a little obstacle, but no biggy. Had to replace the dryer, and my orfice was clogged up beyond belief. Which is probably why when I put in freon, it didn't do anything. None of it was able to work it's way to the system. Built up pressure, caused the dryer valve to leak. At least that's my theory anyway.
This guy does good work, very nice, stands behind his work, and has had plenty of experience with working on fbody's. If you'd like his info (number, directions, etc) PM me and I'll send it to ya! I think I've found myself a new mechanic...
