C4C, IMO is the biggest FAIL ever. the amount of Co2/GHG they will reduce won't even be a "blip" of the total GHG emitted. It's just a way to get people into newer cars to help boost the auto industry.

Granted, some people are coming out ahead in this if their car qualifies and is a true clunker, but what I have seen, have been some nice road going vehicles with many years of use left in them being scrapped because they dont meet the MPG standard.

Worse of all, the entire parts market for individuals who are still behind the wheel of cars going straight to the crusher, is now being limited. Destroying these cars ASAP is removing an entire portion of parts for cars still on the road. How can something like this be ignored? The government in one way or another is forcing people into newer vehicles.

Also, think of the fact: How much money are these people now saving by having a car payment (chances ar the previous vehicle was paid off and lower insurance), and having to have full coverage insurance since most will be borrowing money under the program. Its great you can get a max of $4500 but if the car costs $12k, most people dont have the extra $8k laying around, etc.

It's bad all around, and scares me that people are ok with it.

To set up this program cost hundreds of millions of tax dollars. For the first billion tax dollars doled out, it cost over $46,000.00 per clunker. This program was set up by the 31 year old car czar. The college dropout that helped get bo elected. In my opinion, any American that would let someone make a down payment on their car don't have any sense of decency left for America!!! Like lots of people now days, walking around with their hand out wanting something for nothing. But someone has to pay for this. Could it be their own kids or grand kids having to pick up this debt so they can drive away in a new car? Unbelievable!!!!

Its a completely flawed system no doubt about it. I've got a 98 explorer that I'm pretty sure I could trade in, then what? End up w/ a $300/month car note? It costs me less than $50/month to maintain this thing and its a tank. $300/month will go much farther applied to other things...like upgrades. lol.
Now my colorado on the other hand I would gladly hand over the keys to the guy running the crusher.

It did suck to see that truck crushed and I think the c4c might not be the best program but I think they do know a bit more what they're doing than we do. Hopefully this don't become political.

Yeah the program sucks *****. What about the collage kids trying to make ends meet? Some people went to collage driven a so call clunker but it got you from A-B. This is a fail in my book also what about the project families that can only afford a 3,500 dollar car or truck? The people that where selling these cars are now taking them in to get a free lunch. It hurts the lower and middle class of people. Not everybody makes 76 dollars an hour or have the credit to afford a new fuel saving car. Now there some poor people out there paying out the *** for somthing they cant afford. Look at the housing market, You have open end loans or "Liar Loans" where mother fkers work at burger king but lived in a 500k house. Now you have people trading in cheap cars for some bullshit program and cant afford a new car. If you dont have a down payment your self then you dont need a new car. If 80% of your income is spent on a car you need to be shot.

It's 100% political. If the goal was to get polluting cars off the streets they could simply buy broke a$$ cars from the poor at double value (a $300 pos for $600) and allow those people to buy the decently used vehicles that CARS is crushing.

If it was really about environmentalism, they would require that the refrigerant be recovered prior to crushing, rather than venting it into the atmosphere.

The way I look at it is if I have an extra piece of crap vehicle (that qualifies) sitting in my driveway that is worth $1000 and I am wanting a new vehicle, I'll take $3500 of free money by trading it in under the CLC program.

I don't give 2 ***** what happens to my cars after I sell them.

6-speeds do not qualify. Looks like 2001+ A4 cars do not qualify either:

That “shitbox buick” in my sig has 18k original miles, gets over 30mpg on the highway and is worth quite a bit more than $4500. Also, it would not qualify for C4C.

No need to get all bent out of shape because you for some reason place sentimental value on vehicles.

C4C is a ******* JOKE!!

the yearly taxes for that truck were prolly under 100 bucks, insurance just as cheap. What kinda taxes and ins are on these newer cars? this is all bullshit, tell me the government is giving us a break and i'll tell you your a jackass for believing it.
