pretty sickening to see some fine vehicles destroyed forever. my take on this is the people taking advantage of that have little to nothing for a downpayment and want the quickest way possible to get into a new car with the exception of a few who can actually afford it but dont want their old ride.

Well just this past Saturday my wife traded in her 175,000 mile 2002 xterra for a brand new Altima coupe on this deal and got 12,000 off the sticker price. She said I don't care what they do with the xterra. It makes no sense to destroy a perfect car though to me. I could understand if you can't get it to pass inspection or something but come on. Can't they at least part the damn thing out and destroy only the old engine? Just a strange way of doing things.

Got a buddy thats a tech for a local dealership. They cannot send it off to c4c running, so they are being told to blow up the motors in all the c4c vehicles they get. Good opportunity for an actual mobile 1 synthetic test...ha

im still trying to figure out what some of the people trading in these cars are thinking. guess some people are born without a brain. went to the dealer to get some work done on my SS. and i walked the c4c lot. there were a few 1998-02 ls1 f-bodies , a 04 mustang gt, and quite a few 99-2004 chevy trucks in there some of these vehicles could easily bring in 9-15k if the seller were patient. unfortunately these cars will suffer a horrible death. i did what i could to get the manager to sell me one. no luck there they must be crushed then shredded completely

Thing to bear in mind here is, we're car guys. Cars are more than just transportation to us. We have emotional attachments to them.
To many people, a car is just a car. Driving it is as routine as brushing their teeth. They don't care what happens to it after they've got their new car.
Question in the back of my mind: While the environmentalists are happy that the "clunkers" are being exchanged for more efficient cars, what about the junkyards, landfills, and chemical waste the "clunkers" are generating? Is it a net gain, or are we just breaking even?
The thing that really chaps my ***, though, is that I see a lot of people driving beat up pieces of **** who simply can't afford to trade in their clunkers and get a new car. For them, some of these trade-ins would be an upgrade, both for them and for the environment. But can they take advantage of it? Nope! Why? Because the purpose of this program is to give the automakers more money and put stupid people further in debt.

Just think of all of the scrap metal we now have to sell off to other counties.

That dealership must be run by a bunch of morons, because NO LS1 f-body or Mustang GT qualifies under this program. They have to be factory rated at worse than 16 mpg combined hwy/city. LS1 F-bodies are 18 mpg I believe. most Mustangs are like 17 mpg. Those do not qualify as clunkers.

I dont know about anyone else but it kinda hurt to watch that. Even though it wasnt the nicest thing it still hurt, it was a perfectly good truck and they destroyed it. Seriously this is the dumbest thing ever.
