Car died while I was driving, and now it won't start.
I was driving on I-610 south, and out of nowhere, my car just died. I was able to coast to the side of the road, and tried starting it. I could hear it turning over, but it wouldn't start. What could my problem be? I'm thinking the fuel pump, but what do you guys say?

check your ignition relay
you can do this by switching your starter relay and the ignition relay, if the engine turns over then they are both good. or the easy way shock the **** out of yourself with a plug wire lol

Hmm... If it IS the ignition relay, how much should that set me back in parts and labor at a shop? I have the same problem as the op.

easy way to tell if your fuel pump is working or not......
Start with the car off and key in the off position
Turn the key to the on position (dont start it)
You should hear the fuel pump humming (priming)
If you dont hear it your pump is not working. Go from there.

relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail and then turn the KOEO and then back to the off position. check to see if you have pressure at the rail if not =fuel pump failure

the relay is under your hood in the fuse box and all you have to do is pull them out and swap them.
the relay is about $12 and if they charge you labor for that kick them in the nuts cause its like changing a fuse

Oh ****, you're right. I wasn't even thinking of it like that. Hell, if that's all it is, I'd be happy. I already payed $225 for them to tow it from east houston to webster. I don't trust ANY shops out there.

I'm hoping that's the worst case scenario. If it IS my fuel pump, that's about $88 parts and labor. But quick question... I read somewhere that our fuel pumps can only handle so much hp. How much hp can our stock fuel pumps handle?
