I raced several times on Rankin,,,not behind the Tiddy bar either the old true Rankin in the Late 70s early 80s. I saw a few wrecks too....About 1981 a Cowboy in a 50 something Ford truck with a SBC in it flatbed ==No Crap== raced a 68 440 Charger and lost it at the end and ran head on into a box trailer parked on the side of the road.The truck was ahead of the Charger.Completely demolished the truck,,, motor was in the passenger seat and steering wheel was out the roof of the cab and this cowboy was walkin around the thing with just a hurt arm. I took him home some apartments off of shepard. Couldnt believe he was alive. Used to be a datsun 240 or 260z out their with a smallblock in it that ran good. The first place i saw Nitrous in play was there in about 79. It was a different world for sure where a 12 second street car was pretty fast,,,,11 second street car was very fast and a 10 second street car was not gonna get beat.

I remember getting pulled over there haha
the cop help my (and several other) drivers licenses up like a deck of cards...he said "you kids wanna go to jail?"...we were like"...no sir"...he said "I dont ever want to see you out here again...ill pull you over for dirty spark plugs"....
we left....
and went back an hour later haha

I remember Spikewood, had a few friends with fox bodies that would go out there. I also remember Battleground Road had a few races everyone now and then.

A lot of good times back then.

this thread makes me depressed. lol i had some good times off westheimer in the early 2000s. i heard about rankin but never knew where it was. i made it out there once of twice right as it was being shut down. cops were posted up everywhere waiting
