Cooling issues with lt1 looking for shop in houston
I have had cooling issues with a lt1 for the past month off and on, it runs good for a week after i replace one thing, next week its running hot again. Ive replaced the water pump, radiator, all the hoses, bled the radiator a few times. After about a week of running good today it took a **** on me again.. The coolant is leaking from the reservoir. I replaced the cracked reservoir about two weeks ago. i am honestly looking for a shop in the pasadena / deer park area that could figure out the problem for me so i can get this over with.

I didn't see a t-stat in the list of things you replaced. That is likely the issue. make sure you get an LT1 specific replacement, not just SBC. Take yours in with you if it's original for comparison. If you have bled the system right (not bagging on you, but most likely you have not) and still are having issues that's the first place I would start. Takes about 10 minutes and less than $20 to check. I'd do that before I took it to a shop.

Thanks for the input guys. I just bought the 160 t-stat and will be putting that in. Also the whole bleeding situation, ive been having it done by a mechanic so i figured he would be doing it right but who knows .. checked it out today again and it seems to be losing coolant from somewhere and i think its a small hose leak because i very very slowly lose coolant and then it eventually over heats from the lack of enough coolant, im not a mechanic or anything though. hoping to replace ALL the hoses this weekend and hopefully figuring out the problem. then of course bleeding it. any more input that you guys think would help would be apreciated.

I'm Whilling to bet it wasn't bled properly, my 95 started over heating like crazy last summer and I thought I had bled it properly since I had done it a million times before, after replaceing the water pump and t-stat....

Waterpump went out on me last year... I changed it out along with t-stat... worked fine for a day, got hot again the next day. I bled it and still didnt work,,, ended up being the radiator cap.... im serious.

Happens, my LT1 had a coolant leak before I did H/C, could smell it but was dripping on some thing hot so you could never really find it. When I did the heads and cam, we replaced every single hose in the engine bay along with the radiator. I'm pretty sure it ended up being the heater hoses that go in to the heater core.

nah its impossible. will not work!!! lol then again what do i know about ls1 swaps?
got that too. 20 rwhp&10+mph in the 1/4
another possibilty is the steam tube connected to the backside of the heads. the rubber gaskets usually dry out and seep out the coolant slowly. not the easiest location to get to however not impossible.

I've ran across that situation also, it sounds too easy, but if the cap is worn then it won't hold the correct amount of pressure, causing heating issues. We switched the motor on my sister's Camaro, completely rebuilt new everything, pump, radiator, hoses...working on the heat issue looking around i noticed the cap was older looking than the rest, and realized we re-used it cause the new radiator didn't ship with one, $6 later, no problems for 9 months...then she wrecked it. so i guess still no heat issues...

the way I do it is:
take off the cap and make usre it's full
open both bleeder valves
start the car
wait until thermostat opens and coolant level drops, fill again
watch bleeder screws for stream on water
If it burps any bubbles or air pockets then wait and let it go. Water is cheap! It will **** out a constant stream from both bleeders when there is no air left in the system.
