Mid 20s.. But it wouldnt matter if you damaged a growth plate at that age.

When I had surgery they charged me..
750$ for oxygen
just over a 1000$ for some supplies I needed to take home that you could buy at wal mart for 40$

Those were the too funniest one.. My bill was 17,000$.. Luckily I had insurance.

Go get it x-rayed. I ran into another player playing softball, my wrist swole up, I went to the doctor hoping to get some pills, next thing I know I am in surgery getting a bone in my wrist pinned.

yep. Infection in the bone treated with one of the strongest I.V. antibiotics on the market via picc line. picc is basically a long term I.V. usually inserted into the basilic vein and the tip of the catheter sits literately right above the heart in the superior vena cava (largest vein in the entire body).

no kidding, how do you get and infection in the bone if the bone itself is never exposed?

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED MY SURGEON! (gotta love military docs). Me being in medicine I know that it is VERY rare to get osteo with a closed fx. My post-fx x-rays kept showing an increasing serpiginous lucency defect at the distal diaphysis shaft of the 2nd MC. Multiple bone cultures grew staph A. I have bad luck, and now my hand is ugly and has never been close to 100%. Thank god i'm left handed

Wrong. Diagnostics are the money maker.

To the op suck it up and get it x rayed. You can have a long term problem if things are too far off from original bone position, if it is indeed broken.

Like others, I got into a fight and jacked up my hand. Thumb was fractured and a hairline or two in my hand. I would wait a few days to see how it turns out if insurance is an issue.

I had insurance but figured it would just go away until about a month went by and I was still having experiencing pain. I went straight to a specialist and he informed me it was too late to do anything unless I wanted surgery. I decided to live with it and have never had an issue since.

Good luck!

looks broken. i shattered my left hand after i wrecked doing a wheelie on my sportbike, also broke 4 ribs and tore my acl. i never went to the hospital, just limped around for a while.. fast forward 5 yrs, finally had insurance, went to the doc to see if my hand was fixable, he said no, and also told me about the acl and ribs at that point. heh. acl healed on its own, luckily with just some scarring. as long as my hand makes the O shape, im good. thats all i use it for anyway.

your bones are really vascular. if the infection (staph in this case) is in your blood it can infect your osteocytes (bone cells).

serpiginous lucency defect- so basicaly it was healing in one place but still advancing down your hand?

yup they were worried about mrsa, sooo many strains out there these days. Thats why vanco is the usually the #1 a.b. for osteo. It covers mrsa.
