Default Flashing SES light

I was on my way to work this morning and as I was getting onto 290 near huffmeiste, I got a flashing SES light. I did get on it from 2nd - 3rd, then the car fell flat on its face and exhaust tone changed. The engine is making no unusual noise, at least no noise that I would expect to hear with a bent pushrod or broken valve spring? I still suspect that is what has happened here. I am going to pull the valve covers tonight and see what I have broken. Just curious if anyone local might have some stock valve springs or a set of push rods they would want to sell.

I have not done any motor work, just changed the oil a few days ago. I ran out to pick up a bite to eat 20 mins ago, the car had been sitting all morning since I got to work. Starts up fine, no misfire, and is driving fine until it reaches operating temp, then it starts with the SES light and sputtering and popping. I need to run by autozone and have them pull the code on the way home this afternoon, or I am going to be chasing my tail this weekend.

hmm...if you haven't touched the motor, then it could be dozens of things. bad coil pack to bad 02's to bad crank sensor or cam position sensor. good luck chasing your tail this weekend. it's going to be a frustrating one!

come to think of it, the crank position sensor might be a good call TINKRD. I have had some trouble starting the car lately, no noise from starter, no clicking etc, nada. After twisting the key in the ignition it will eventually start on the 3rd or 4th try. I still need to get it scanned and see what codes are being thrown.

Also, If you wash your engine bay, you can burn up spark plug wires. I went through 2 sets (free warranty) before I made the connection.

I took a look this morning and turns out #5 plug wire was touching the LTs. Fortunately I had kept my old plug wires and its running much better. Thank you all for the suggestions...

Thanks guys, the car appears to fixed for a moment. I feel like jackass, was convinced I initially had broken a valve spring, or bent a pushrod since it happened at WOT. I should checked the plug wires 1st..
