there are ways around it.

Some register them in counties that don't require smog, others go to the places that look the other way, others do the 100 dollar bill trick. Just depends what you wanna do.

where there is a will there is a way. Use the search button. This gets discussed like 10 times a week.

The EGR and AIR are never a concern, most inspection technicians don't even know what that crap looks like under a hood, much less if it is even there or not. The only real problem is the visual inspection. The OBDII portion is easy to beat with a tune out or O2 simulators. Find a shop that is lazy at visually looking, or find one you can pay a few extra to look away. I used to work at a lube center and there was a crooked buddy of mine that used to do it for me, but he got fired, for other reasons so when I up I am going to have to find another shop.

So would you recommend getting rid of AIR and EGR? Or just leave it? Also what about this said smog pump? What do you do with that?

I just give the Mexican dude at the jiffy lube down the street 20 bucks and he does it for me... I have super dark tint, and no cats.

Well, if you were planning on getting rid of it, go ahead. If not, go ahead and leave it. It is fine either way.

I have removed the AIR and rear O2s and have no problem passing. I do have cats (high flow). It's obviously modded (with the headers and cam) though. The tune takes care of the ODBII.

Well I am just gonna leave it. My headers have the ports for them anyways and I don't want a stupid *** bolt in them so I am gonna leave it. Can't hurt power too much! And about the smog? Exactly where is this thing located and how necessary is it? I am just gonna use the spark plug non-fouler method!

I can tell you this. Every time I've had my car inspected the guy looks under my car for the cats. Howerver, I took my EGR off last year and he said nothing. I'm going to remove the AIR system this time and see if I get away with it. As long as the cars at running temp when inspected, the AIR system does nothing. He can only ding me if he sees it missing and want's to be a butt.

Around here (Idaho), and where I get inspected, the only thing you have to worry about is the OBDII where they hook up to your computer and test the car. I thought I had the problem taken care of with my tune... just told all the sensors that arent there anymore not to report and I passed. That was a couple years ago. Recently, when I tried to get it passed again, the computer failed me. I have been back like 6 times, trying different things, all failed. I even got my registration revoked because of it. I am at a total loss. If you, or anyone else who is a brain with tuning and emissions would lend some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

as long as your have no codes, your car isnt obscenely loud, and doesnt reek of fuel, you'll pass just about anywhere. the only place that's ever given me a hard time has been a dealership.

remember, the rule of thumb, is the sketchier the place looks, the less they check

I think now that its all done through OBDII port, passing inspections are easy. I passed inpsection with Q16 in my car, tech kept inquiring about why fuel smelled funny.

Sorry man, I know nothing of tuning, or even what different voltages are being used to communicate back and forth with the PCM. I would take a guess and go with O2 simulators. I THINK they work off of sending a voltage reading of "OK" to the computer. If that is how they truly work, then I wouldn't see why that would be a problem for the emission machine.

Also, with the machines used in Texas, they really just check the "readiness" status of emissions equipment and the status of the malfunction indicator light. They do not look so far into how or what different voltage readings are. This may be new in Texas, doubtful, or local to your situation.
