Why would you want to. Would be about the same price as an LQ9. You can do alot more with a 6.0L block. With a 5.3 you would put down less power than a 5.7 NA.

FYI, it's not that much lighter than an LQ9 block.

Lq9's are about $400-$500 more than a 5.3L. They are not the same price.

Brand new maybe, but I built a sortblock up using and LQ9 about 5 years ago. Bought the block for 200 bucks, but had to do the tear down. All depends on the deal you find.

i have been thinking of passing on my z to my son but there is no way i can give it to him w/the current motor set up. so i have thought of picking up a used 5.3 cheap (+/-$500) to slow it down. if im not mistaken everything should bolt right up in the original locations, right?

Just have to watch out for the newer 5.3, they have a longer crank on the rear so a T56 will not adapt to them.

I bought a Z28 a while back and someone had put a 5.3L in it previously...I would have liked to have found who did it, flown them into town, punched them in the face, and flown them back home just for my satisfaction. What a terrible idea I was glad to see that POS drive away after I sold it!

I'm guessing that the person didn't tell him it was a 5.3 when he purchased it and he found out the hard way.

It could have a v6 and still be fast. What u should do is put a tune and set the shift points, rev limiter, and speed limiter lower.

I have to agree if the previous owner passed it along as an LS1.
