The nt05r tire is better than the m/ts. New technology is better than old technology.
The nitto will probably be better for daily use, but the mickey still gonna kill it at the track..
after looking at the new nitto it does look far better than the old one, it actually is 00 treadwear now which means it should hook better and the big fat center section should help too, but all the other companies building DR's have far more experience building competition tire's than nitto so for now I personally will stick with those
I am happy to see nitto step up with a more serious DR and make the DR market more competitive dollar wise, hopefully being the cheaper option they will help bring costs down a little across the board as the other companies try to not loose sales based on cost..

I was at the track last week and i was talking to a mammoth kb gt500 guy and he said hes buying a set to try them out. So ill get some results when i see him next time.

And like you said that was a magazine test and unfortunately there are too many variables, what was their basis of the test, all out grip, over all use etc
I love my Toyo's for overall use as such the original nitto was designed, but it has far better grip and looks, it looks like the new Nitto might be a good contender in that category but with better grip than the original Nitto DR. And after looking at it, if it nets good results and is cheaper I may switch from the Toyo, but Toyo has alot more experience in the competition (track competition) segment of tires than Nitto so for right now im a not convinced these will be very spectacular.

Toyo's make a good tire with out a doubt. I'm glad to see many tire companys making good products. Without a good tire then whats the point of horsepower?

I'd imagine the Nitto NT05R ( this is the R, not. The regular NT05) is the same compound as the Toyo TQ since they're owned by Toyo. I know the Nitto isn't as soft as the MT.
If you want something with better than stock traction and decent milage:555R
If you want more traction but still have some tread life: BFG, Toyo, NT05R
If you want maximum traction and don't care about tread life: MT, Hoosier, or M&H. IIRC the M&H doesn't come in a 26" tire though.
