Losing 3 million a month in the sense that it is costing the hospital 3 million a month with respect to budgets. The hospital isn't going negative 3 million a month. What really hurts about all of this is that me working as a contractor for a hospital could easily lose my job in a couple of years when the hospitals start trying to figure out ways to make up costs and still try to keep the same level of healthcare. Basically the gov't will want the hospitals to provide the same services with the same quality for less money. That will not be easily sustainable. My wife could also very easily lose her job at any time as she is a sales rep for a pharma company. It sure seems like we are going backwards with jobs when this healthcare bill is definately going to cost a lot of people their jobs. I'm afraid it may be both me and my wife.

The medical, and pharm. industries need to be revamped.

I had to get a catscan a few months back, woke up pissing blood, with no paind whatsoever.

I spent 5 hours in the E.R. Spend less than 5 minutes in the catscan room. Never got a positive diagnosis from the E.R doctor, only got a maybe it's blah blah blah. Total cost was north of $3500. $ i paid 500 out of pocket! On the breakdown, it was $1000 just for the doctor to look at the scans!

Another example. My brother had a liver transplant in 2005, due to liver cancer. He was 17. He now has to get a shot every two months that helps him digest food, called Sandostatin. It costs anywhere from $2500 to $7000 PER SHOT. He is unemployed at the current time and pays $500 a month for his health insurance. If he was to lose it, which he eventually would if the bill didnt pass, he would surely die, at the old age of 22

Total cost of his liver transplant: North of $300,000

Ok I see what you mean now on the lost revenue. I agree that this bill will kill jobs. I am worried about it as well. I am in school working towards becoming a CRNA and I have alot of time and money invested in this with the hopes of having a good career and a good return on my investment. There are ways to accomplish affordable healthcare without socializing medicine.

I will keep your brother in my thoughts and prayers. This whole debate is so we can help those like your brother. I fear that the bill that has past will not help people like your brother. This bill will make patients a number and their treatments a probabilty calculation. They will start calculating odds of survival vs dollars spent and if they odds don't out weigh the probable results then he may never get the treatment he needs. We can make this system work but it will take efforts that the left wing agenda driven left will not consider.

Thank you. And to be honest, i'm not sold 100% on this bill either. I'm not liberal, nor am i conservative. I just wish that our elected officials, rebulican, democrat, or other, could work together, and actually serve the public like they are supposed to. I'm afraid that both sides work for interest groups, and those with the deepest pockets.

The only thing i like about this bill is it forces the issue of healthcare. Rather than just talking about it, it is getting people to move on it. I dont think the final answer will be the answer today, but at least it is moving.

I get upset by the people who think that health care is fine the way it is. Sure, the wealthy, and higher end of the middle class may be happy, but for my parents who worked hard as part of the lower middle class to put me through college, it is a different story. The people who often need health care the most, are those who do not have access to it, or access to it affordibly. $500 a month may not sound like alot, but for my brother, it is. For my parents it is. I just want this country to move on healthcare. Get people talking about it. That is exactly what this bill has done.

If he is still there, you like history, and it fits your degree plan...sign up for "History of World Economics". Professor Bean taught it. Very cool old man, with a huge amount of knowledge. Be ready to write long winded essay answers for tests though. I'd say every prof I had in that degree program was at least a fiscon.
Haha. I had a young professor. He was pretty cool, humorous, had engaging lectures, etc. How could you forget the equations, being an Econ major?! lol.

Y = C (private consumption) + I (investment) + G (government spending) + NX

NX = exports - imports

Unfortunately, I've already used my free electives. I did take The American Revolution with Professor Martin. That class was outstanding.

Guys, still remember that health care services and health care insurance are privileges, not rights. We're fortunate enough to live in the greatest country in the history of the world with the most prosperous economy, too, that affords us first-class medical care at the touch of a button or drive down the street. We are privileged to have such access. Go visit some other countries not as fortunate as we are. And also remember that medical services are inherently expensive. It's a valuable service we all need. Some of the doctors spend 15 years in training to do the work they do. People get sick. Often people get sick with diseases and conditions that are presently very expensive to treat. That's why it's important to invest in research and development to produce newer and more efficient technologies that will ultimately make health care services less expensive. And there are a number of things we could do legislatively, policy-wise, and so forth, but unfortunately Obama and the DemonCats did nothing of the sort. It's simply the truth.

I agree. I would like to say though that it isn't totally the Democrats fault. The Republicans had 12 years to do something about it as well and they did little or nothing at all. I understand we had the wars and some other pressing issues but it could have been addressed. I hope that in November the American people fire everyone currently in congress and lets start over. We need people that don't have agendas and are not corupted by Washington. We need term limits to keep fresh people and fresh ideas in public office.

true but republicans have not even put forth an effort that comes close to this nor do they seem to care. they would rather just criticize it and slander it as socialism that offer any kind of assistance

So what has Obama actually accomplished other than ushering in socialism?

I guess the next time your house starts on fire dont call the fire dept or your house is being burglarized don't call the cops. they are part of our socialist gov't in which a majority pay taxes for service available to all when needed. Your right screw socialism and don't expect the nations defense to come to your aid as well when our country is under attack. the gov't does alot but yes it is far from perfect ignorant statements such as socialism are pointless without some social programs this country would be in dire shape. by the way what did bush do that was so great in his first year besides iniating the greatest ecomonic downturn in almost a century. he had the power to stop it but continued with his deregulations of the banking and mortgage industry

Thats what i dont understand. Everyone i know who claims to be a Conservative, and they hate entitlement programs, is quick to take federal grants for college tuition, or have no problem taking $8k for the first time homebuyer credit. If you really found your belief on these systems being the eventual end of our system, then take a stand and dont use them! If the government doesnt provide some services to this country, why have one?

Couldnt it be argued that since the Free market does so well to allocate resources, we should allow private companies to provide military protection to those who are willing and able to afford it? Wouldnt soliders probably make more money this way? Would it not allocate the resources better? I'm sure most conservatives would have a problem with this model of armed forces. Why is it any different for any other service that people NEED?

Couldnt we pay millions of dollars each year to the person who is voted as most qualified, and elect presidents this way, just like corporations do? Wouldnt this yield the best candidate?

My point is, if you want the capitalist system to drive our entire country, why do we have any program that is provided by the government? Why not just let the free open market solve the problem? Its supposed to be good enough for health care.

By definition in the constitution there are certain things that the gov't is supposed to do and there are things they should not get involved in. Safety and protection is an example of what they are supposed to do, redistribution of wealth is not what they are supposed to do. I think someone already stated this earlier in the conversation.

Good governments perform their proper function(s). Redistribution of wealth is what the communists do. They seek to incite the classes against each other by vilifying the evils of capitalism and so forth - you know, class warfare. The National Socialist didn't do this. They were more jingoists. Obama is definitely a marxist. And remember there are many different flavors of marxism, leninism, communism, nazism, fascism, and so forth. But they have one thing in common - authoritarianism/totalitarianism.
