Default Hooker or Pacesetter headers??

Well I'll be buying some new headers by the end of the wk and I'm on the fence on which to get... I currently have hookers and would like the headers to mate up directly. What kind of issues would I have with pacesetter? I was told they have thicker flanges, so that's definately a plus...

Any advice is appreciated.

Patrick.

you still have duals on it? If so, they prolly wont' be a direct mate since the duals were prolly built off the old setup.

What's the reason for changing headers?

Yeah I still have the duals, reason for switching the headers out is the flanges are warped so there are some large exhaust leaks.

I went with pacesetters for the fact that the flanges and tubing wall are both thicker than the hookers. I think the hooker headers are 18 ga tubing wall while the pacesetters are 16ga.

So do you think even if I get hooker, that some fab work will need
to be done?

They might, all you can do is try and if not take it to an exhaust shop that is non cat friendly.

I believe the pacesetters are not a ''true'' long tube as well. As far as being the same length like the Hookers. How much truth is behind this...I'm not positive. Just some reviews I've read on here from some members.

Hookers suck.

Everybody that I know has had problems with them.

Don't waste your money on them.

Default Headers

I have Hooker ceramic coated LTs with the TSP catted Y-pipe. The Headers fit perfectly and do not hang low at all, The catted Y-pipe gets a little low in places. The hookers look better than the pacesetters IMO based on ones Ive seen. The pacesetters Ive seen have surface rusted quicker also. My hookers still look new. they have been on the car almost a year with absolutely not one issue which I have been amazed about. Good Luck

Thats actually not correct, when I was looking at headers there had been a couple vendors that advertised that but I think that may have been the old hookers so Patrick that may be the issue, the new hooker is better. If you want to measure yours, I will measure mine and let you know what mine are

The new hooker design goes in very easy, not sure about the old one. I did mine in the garage with no issues.

Do you have them? What kind of problems? I wouldn't just jump on and say they suck..

I noticed the people that don't have them say they suck and the people that do have them love them. I also think that maybe the old hookers were thinner becuase I have seen them advertised as having 5/16 flanges instead of 3/8 and 18 ga instead of 16ga tubing but the ones I have ( the new design ) are thicker.

And here is a pic of mine, they do not hang low.

I am old school. On late 60's and early 70's GM A,B and F bodies, they dont' fit particularly well. On race cars that only get run once or twice a month, and stored indoors, they rust, even the coated ones and the collector falls off about 1200' downtrack. YES, experience told me not to buy them again. I have seen more than one set fail and quit counting after I ran out of fingers.

LOL man that's terrible. Well I think they have came a long way now with redisigning the primary's routing, thicker tubing, and thicker flanges. The coating on mine is doing very well and they see daily use and are around 3 years old.

The Pacesetters for the longest time were best bang for buck, now its pretty close between hooker and pacesetter. Except that hooker now uses merge spikes in their comp series and also sells stainless for a really good price. The last time I priced hooker stainless they were 499, I think they are near 550 now though? Speedtweekerz had the best deal on them when I was looking

I have always had hookers even on my old school rides I had. I never had issues with them and I think they are damn good headers. They have come along way in the design and craftsmanship and wouldn't hesitate to buy a set. Although, now I have kooks because I can afford them now.

How about you save alot of money and just weld your exhaust to your headers? ;p
