this thread coming back up inspired me to check mine while i had the car on jackstands to install my new suspension stuff.

my TA bolts were barely finger tight. and thats with ZERO track time since the last time i torqued them down.

what is this 'safety wire' that everyone is talking about? do you basically just tie the bolts together with wire?

Safety wire is used generally in aircraft and militarty stuff. Those bolts where it's used are already pre-drilled with a small hole. I've done it alot myself, easy once you figure out what you're doing. Basically you run the wire in a reverse "S" so that if one bolt tries to loosen, the wire is pulling the other bolt tighter.

and the hole we speak of goes sideways through the hex head of the bolt and is very small, maybe .050", just big enough for a good strong .035 or .040 diameter stainless steel wire.

They say the strange doesnt have that issue, think the bolt goes all the way through like stock.

My brother just recently tried putting a good tack weld on the bolts to hold them but the tacks broke after about three weeks. I always had to check them about once a month, even with lock tight and a lock washer.

like mount the torque arm, put studs in, and then a nut on top?

why would that be better? wouldnt the studs back out just the same as bolts do?

Yea, that is how you would do it. A stud usually has a better clamping force, might preven the back out. I was thinking if I actually had to, make a piece of steel that would sit over the bolts like a puzzle and actually be able to bolt them together in the middle, then they would be locked in.

get plates long enough to reach each other, have a 12pt socket hole cut in both. tighten, lok tite etc, then put the plates down over the bolt heads. thighten or loosen the bolts to see that the plates overlap each other then bolt the plates together. drill and tap the top middle of each bolt for a small bolt and use that small bolt to secure the plates on top of the TA bolts.
