Looking for a reputable machine shop in Lufkin/Nacogdoches area
To start off this is another tech member (litch2004) doing this for my buddy who is still trying to get used to our format on the forum. So I am going to type this up for him. By the way he is not new to the forum but completely new to the LT1.
So he lost oil pressure in his truck and since I live in the Austin area now and he lives around the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area now there is only so much help I can provide over the phone. I told him what he needed to do to determine the damage caused to his motor and has followed my advice only to find what I had figured had happen. He spun 1 rod bearing and a few mains were about to go as well. Now he needs a machine shop to look over the block, crank, and rods. If his rods and crank are still in good condition I told him he can get the machine shop to turn and recondition them to be able to reuse them since he is on a budget to get his truck back on the road. I know many engine builders will tell you all day long that a LT1 is just another sbc and they have worked on TONS of them and knew exactly what they are doing. I know this to be false. So my question for you all in regards to his situation is who would you recommend him to go and get his parts looked over for a non-street robbing price? He is in the USMC and will be getting deployed to Afghanistan in November so he has no where to work on his motor on base, nor the time to do so. So any help you can provide for his question would be greatly appreciated.
By the way his name is Casey.
Thanks Mike

If I remember right, once you go south on University it will dead end at the loop in front of a gas station. Take a left on the loop and I think it's the next light (there will be a sign for Woden) where you take a right. Pinkstons is a little ways up on the left. I grew up in Nacogdoches and dad is the fleet mechanic for the Tyson plant in Nacogdoches so we go up there pretty often.
