apparently a bill is being presented to eliminate the front plate in TX. It seems like it may have a good chance too. You can help by signing the petition.
Here it is:
http://www.legis.state.tx.us/BillLoo...81R&Bill=SB561
the bill's author is Mike Jackson. We could write him in support....maybe it'd help.
I also found a petition here:

... signing an on-line petition means bupkis.
A stack of letters piled up on his desk has an impact.
If no front plate is THAT important to you, then take the time to write your Senator and your Congressman.
It is also important that you are able to put together a decent arguement, showing just cause why a front plate is not necessary.
"It's ugly", "It's stupid", "I have to drill holes in my car" are all nonsense in their eyes.
Removing the statute has to mean something to the state ... like safety for children, lower the burden on tax-payers, environmentally sound ... all the catch phrases that politicians like to use.
And most importantly ... it's election time and the legislature convenes for 140 days in January. So timing is right.
They won't come to you ... you have to go to them.
So write a letter and stop wasting time on that ridiculous on-line petition. It will take you 5 minutes and $0.35

Signed...they have been trying in Virginia to get rid of the front tags the battle still goes on i think if we keep trying eventually it will pass. Writing letters would help more though.

Maybe if someone printed out all the signatures and put them on the Congressman's desk, it would do something. Sure it would kill a few trees, but damn it, I hate front plates.
