Question Maybe moving to TX soon. Vehicle laws Qs

OK so I'm in the hiring process for Border Patrol and so I may be moving to Brownsville or McAllen, TX. I've always loved TX compared to many other...retarded..states. So here's what I need to know: I have no Cats on my 02 V6 Bird and no EGR or AIR on my 00 WS6. Is there state-wide emissions testing or only in specific counties and cities? I know TX uses a front plate so I gotta be ready for that. What else should I know? When I first register my vehicles in TX, do they do a complete inspection of just issue plates? Thanks Texans!

I believe in order to get the registration in Texas your vehicle has to pass inspection and the paperwork taken to the courthouse showing it passed.

I doubt they'll look for the EGR on the WS6. They might peak up under the car to look for the cats. If the county you are moving to does not do emissions testing (I doubt they do down there.), then it will be your basic inspection (blinkers, horn, brakes, gas cap, visual on the tires, etc.).

I checked the DMV site but didn't quite answer all my questions. Wisconsin requires a muffler and cats but they don't check...EVER. Unless they have a specific reason to. I didn't see a registration inspection on the DMV site nor anything about first-time registration inspection/emissions check. Easiest way to learn is to ask.

Thanks for the replies guys. I want to be as prepared as possible...wouldn't wanna get surprised with a failed registration.

you have to get a "green slip" (out of state inspection) which, by the way is white, it cost an extra dollar over the 14.50 for the inspection. that has to be presented when you apply for a tx title and registration. all counties are supposed to look for cats but only a few have emissions testing. down in that area i doubt they will look but you never know.

Depends on if the county is a emissions county or not, either way for a safety inspection they are required to look for your egr, cats and mufflers. Most don't unless they are stifflers about it. If it is a emissions county then they will run a emissions test which is just hooking up a obd2 scanner to make sure no codes are present. The vehicle does have to be inspected before being registered and you will need that "green" sheet, which is stupid cause all they do is look at it at the DMV then throw it in the garbage.
