Anyone know of a shop that will replace cam bearings with the rotating assembly still in?
My 3 shops i normally use refuse, even if i removed the rods and pistons, which i really am trying to avoid.
I would do it myself if i had the WAY ove priced tool, but i dont.

Can't rent it from parts stores.
I have always done my own. Isn't the going rate somewhere around $50 for a shop to do it these days? If so the tool pays for itself pretty quick, especially if you ever work on engines for other people. I just bought the tool because I insist on doing everything myself.

BTW, the reason the shops won't install them with the crankshaft in the engine because then they have no way to visually verify that the oil groove around the outside of the bearing is lined up with the oil feed holes coming from the mains.

Actually, I guess I should have first asked what kind of engine you are working on? If it is an LS engine like in your sig, then the grooves are in the block instead of the bearing anyways, and they are not fed from the mains. My brain doesn't work well at 3am. Too used to working on SBC/SBF race blocks. You are correct that you can just look through the holes in the bearing to see when it is lined up with the groove in the block.
