Default Drag Radials

i just got a set of nitto 555r's that have been setting up for awhile and the rubber has got hard and will not hook at all. is there anything i can do to them? i know 555r's ain't the best but i figure they are better than street tires and safer for my 05 rear. right now my street tires hook 10x better. they are 275 40 17.

They are not safer if the street tires hook better. Which ever hooks better is safer.

There isn't much you can do, even if they were newer. Drag radials need temperature to work properly and it's really cold out right now. They are designed to work in warm temperature's or when heated. Your street tires are actually more appropriate for the current temperature's we are having. Yes tires are made to work better in certain temperatures. Thats why some tires are called All Season and some are called Summer.....

I will say this though about drag radials, my Nitto NT555R's were crap in the cold as well, my Toyo TQ's hooked way better.

last night about half throttle they would spin or wheel hop really bad. no nitrous. i used 555r's on my mach and they always worked good even on nitrous. these are bad. thats why i thought they may have got old... on corvette forum a guy said that the r compound is not any good after about 2 years. or its not as good. i don't know how true that is.

i thought i got a good deal chrome c5 wheels and the tires look good for $200. they just needed a good cleaning. now Im scared to put them back on my car. i don't even like them being in the same garage with my car.

Put some miles on them and see if it softens them up.

The continuous flexing of them going down the highway could help.

i may put them back on tomorrow and drive on them all week. if that don't work i will just get a new set of Hoosiers or something.

everytime i tried a good burn out it starts wheel hopping and i just let off. i would hate to brake the rear tring to get them hot. maybe if it rains i will find somewhere and burn them down. i was going to get the water hose out and do it in front of may apartment but there is a friendswood cop that lives close to me lol

thanks!

i will. the only reason i got them is i wanted a 11. the last time at the track i ran 12.0 @ 123 on street tires with a 2.0 ft'. on a 100 shot im on a 125 now. in my head i thought a 17" wheel would give me more gear.....

Well 2.0 60 foot is crappy. Get a set of slicks and spray it out of the hole

You'll be in the 11's, just knock that 60 down

That sounds pretty bad, if they are old then the rubber has hardened and basically they are no good. And if they are causing hop they like you said are going to break the rear end, better off selling them or chunking them so they dont damage your car.

I'm not going to use them. i thought about doing a good burn out in water and driving on them but I'm going to just suck it as a lesson trying to go the cheap way. i think I'm going to try Hoosiers. after i order them i will have $600 in track wheels lol Fail
