Default Think its time for a cam.

Well guy's I think im ready for a cam. My problem is there is so many cams out there. What would be the best cam for a daily driver? What should I repalce while having a cam installed? Right now it has Pacesetter headers, true duals, and whisper lid.

I DDed my torquer V2 cam for almost 2 years... any cam above 230s duration is going to have surging in low RPMs regardless of how or who tunes it... just sayin.

If I were to have to do it all over again, I would have gone with an MS4.

The things you NEED to replace are; pushrods, springs, and the cam obviously. Everything else is optional. But it's good to replace things while you're there... like the timing chain, and oil pump...

Two types of people:

Person who likes to have catalytic converters and a small cam. (220-228 cams)

Person who likes off road pipes and a big cam. (234-trex cams)

I see you like "true dual dumps", which would probably fall into the latter category.

Know what your plans are for the car and get the right cam for what u want the first time. No point in spending more money and time swapping to a bigger cam because u got one that was to small the first time.

What you expect and how the car will be used is a determining factor. Sounds like your car will stay a daily driver. I would not go big duration if you have a lot of stop'n'go traffic to deal with, the surging would be a nuisance. You don't have to go big duration to make great power either, a lot of folks get caught up with getting a big peak number on the dyno and end up sacrificing low end and some mid-range to do it. There are newer lobes out there that will give you great power without going big duration. Contact a vendor for assistance, staying high 220s/low 230s duration will still yield good gains and retain good drivability for DD use.

Hey David it's really up to you and what you want to do with your car.. Do you ever plan on doing heads? if so mark off the T-Rex.. They will tell you they have got little to no gain from a good set of heads.. That’s for a true Cam only car.

TR-RapTR is a very good cam too KevinR in my friends list has that cam and loves it. Just make sure in the supporting mods list you have what they say you will need to get the best out of the Cam.

TRak" The reason I went with this is .... The cam does very good for Cam only and if you want to put heads on later you will see a big improvement.

Just speak with the people at Thunder Racing they can help you a lot.

If you look in my sig.. just click on my cam it will link you to there site.

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
"TRak" - 231/234 .640/.590 112 LSA 2400-6800 RPM Power Band. Excellent mid-range & high RPM power. 3200 stall, 3.42 gear, computer tuning required. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Comp 921 Valve Springs are highly recommended.

99-TR-RapTR Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
" RapTR" - 236/242 - .615/.615 - 111 lsa 3000-6800 RPM Power Band. Great mid-range & high RPM power. Requires computer tuning, 3600 converter on autos, 4.10's or greater depending on transmission. Works very well with nitrous and proper tuning. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Due to the extreme nature of this camshaft, piston to valve clearance must be verified when using modified cylinder heads.

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
T-ReX v.2 - 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa 3500-6700 RPM Power Band. Violent mid-range & high RPM power. Requires computer tuning, 4000 converter on autos, 4.30's or greater depending on transmission. Works very well with nitrous and proper tuning. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Due to the extreme nature of this camshaft, piston to valve clearance must be verified when using modified cylinder heads.
