I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I have State Farm for all of my cars, a motorhome, (had it for my boat) and my house. I have never...ever had a problem with a claim. A tree limb fell on my boat during Ike and cracked the side rail. It did not affect the boat's structural integrity. It was simply a minor eye sore. State Farm wrote me a check for the total insured value of the boat and let me keep it.
In my opinion, State Farm is one of the easiest insurance companies to deal with.

Nothing against you or anything but.... If he took the car to the shop for this one reason.. It is the shops job to find out what caused the problem.. That is why he brought the car to the shop in the first place. So the insurance company could pay to get his motor fixed if that's was what the problem is “water damage”. After THAT problem has been identified then you get the car running and going.
Like a lot of people have said, if the picture with the rust in the engine would have been shown thats a good sign that water was the cause of the problem.
But this is just my .02

I have had State Farm for 20+ years and have worked for them as a property adjuster (homes, etc.) for most of that time. 4 things can help move this issue:
1 - Always start with the agent. If he has clout, he can get it reviewed or even pay out of his office. If it is a new agent, skip to #2 & 3.
2 - Go over the adjuster to a team leader/manager.
3 - Get a 3rd party expert to inspect & write a report on the damage.
4 - Last resort, make a complaint to the State Board of Insurance.
Always keep communications civil and use the facts. Being a dick never helps. Also, threatening to leave State Farm does no good. Especially for the dicks, they just say 'good riddance'.

I believe the problem is u didn't report right way. And let thing dry up. I would of gotten towed straight to the chevy house. And let them do the insurance etc. Also the one piston looks like it's been seeing coolant and steam cleaning itself. And the water in the piston hole looks like coolant from taking the heads off. But hey what do I know. Just my opinion.

I had an old fox body mustang that got water damage (horrible storm). State Farm was ok to deal with at first but the local Ford dealership installed some POS used engine that ran hot / ate oil / dynoed very low for a stock 302.
It took a lot of work but state farm finally just cut me an extra $2k check to cover fixing it myself. The Ford dealer just told me to pound sand. It's the biggest reason why I don't trust a stealership to work on my vehicles.

Some people just don't listen and think they know. I did lots of them too, all got repaired by the insurance. Now depending on the insurance some got new engines while others got junkyard engines.

I guess I like state farm too. I got hail damage last year and told them about it. They asked me where I had in mind to get it fixed. I told them where I might do it. The next day the shop calls me and asks when it's convenient to do an estimate. I brought it in and it was fixed within a week.
State Farm took my word for it on the damage and the shop's, I paid the shop 250 for the deductible and the insurance dealt with the bill through the shop. It couldn't have been easier.

If you want to see who has the best fullfilled "PROMISE" when it comes to auto insurance customer satisfaction look no further than the below link...
How each company´s consumer complaints compare to the average, with an index of 1.00 as average.
Below 1.00 means fewer complaints than average and above 1.00 means more complaints than average.
STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANY
97 justified complaints 3,111,410 total Texas customers 0.22 complaint index
STATE FARM COUNTY MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY OF TEXAS
16 justified complaints 247,208 total Texas customers 0.47 complaint index
http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/auto/cpautoci09.html
2010 data is not available but the top 10 companies have been fairly consistent over the past 3 years.

i had state farm when i hydro locked my motor in my z28 (about 2-3 years ago). i had it towed to LMR and steven dealt directly with state farm and they gave me like $4k. i put my money with that and got a little ol 408. I like state farm. I agree with some above that it was just a bad rep or something

I got hit by someone right after graduation, totaled my truck. I had several witnesses to the accident, and provided them with the names and phone numbers. They never called any of them, or my passenger. I had a copy of the police report in my hand that clearly shows the other driver at fault, but state farm faulted me because they had to pay out, not only that they gave me only 10k on a 2008 truck with 20k miles on it. Truck was in mint condition and was only a year old at the time.

I've had SF for my entire life, and my parents have too. I lost it for 3 years when I got a wreckless driving. That was the worst 3 years and most expensive I've ever had. I love SF, never had an issue and have had a few claims, including one totalled Bike....
Love my agent!
