its hard to say anything on either Kia or Hyundai because ive never driven one nore known anyone who was a close friend of mine who has..could be great cars only thing that would scare me off is them being "newer" companys with a "rocky start" whats the re-sale values of these kind of cars?

and deff not trying to turn anyone away from making a choice in cars but a car that i think looks really good is the new VW CC!
i looked into them not too long ago and their not too bad although options wise idk because i didnt go too far in depth at looking...

One thing you really need to consider is resale value since you really like to ask a higher price than most people for your pre-owned stuff. I don't think this Hyundai will pull a premium when its used later on down the line. Not saying this car is a shitty choice, but that needs serious consideration on your part.

example

Donohue96M6Z28, oh ok, San Antonio. It would definitely have to be worth my wild to take a drive down there as I'm on the south side of Houston. Yes, I've seen a decked out one in black and again, the wheels aren't too appealing to me. I wish they hadn't did black in between the spokes. The wheels actually looking better in the commercials and online, but in person, I wasn't really feeling them. Yeah, I would like to buy this week as I've been looking for the past couple of months.

NastySSnTexas, neither Kia or Hyundai are new companies. They've been around a while, but this particular year, they've stepped it up as far as styling. Yes, the VW CC was also another choice of mine, however, it only gets 29 mpg. To get the 30 or 31, it has to be a manual transmission.

5w20, c'mon, was quoting an item I have for sale and the comment you made really necessary? I paid a grand for the converter the way it was built/set up.

Just trying to help you focus on the peanut jar and not just the peanut itself.

Jeremy,

Have you considered a Malibu? I have a 2010 LTZ for my daily driver with the v6 and still get on average 25ish with my erratic driving. I am pretty sure you can get an LTZ in the 4 banger and get close to the mileage you want. I actually enjoy my car, it is pretty comfortable and was practical.

Randy_S, I haven't. Honestly, I didn't even look into it to check the economy.

Donohue96M6Z28, I'm really stuck on white. I definitely don't want a dark color and well silver is just too common. I'm definitely sold on pearl white. I'm considering trading my truck in, so I would have to make the drive down there.

EPA for my Maxima was 29 highway. I however ran 93 octane during road trips and was able to obtain 31 MPG all the way from Houston to Daytona Beach, FL.

Nissan really makes fantastic cars. And they have a PROVEN track record. KIA does not. They are still trying to prove themselves... which i don't think they do a good job at all. Not to mention they cant hold resale value.

Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Toyota, and Lexus all produce fuel efficient luxury cars that can be picked up Certified for around $20,000 (or less) and hold value really well.

One of those (multiple) "guys" is my brother - and the owners (not just mechanics) would be a couple in-laws.

Is it possible Kia upped their game since 2009? I suppose... but they were still crap then and their practices have been shady when it comes to warranty work and sometimes downright unethical (hence the past tense and why he got hte f- out).

You can back Kia all day long, I'm just offering a different opinion based on experiences my friends and family members have had.

HTX, I definitely want something that advertises at least 32 mpg, but most of the time, they usually get less. In your case, you got better mileage and I'm guessing only because you put premium fuel. I'm not saying Nissan doesn't make great cars nor am I completely sold on a Kia. Again, the Hyundai Sonata was my first choice.

Head hunter - maybe it was just that dealership that had shady practices?

Also, when I first came here... I also thought Kia was ****. But they aren't. Look at the 2011 models, and the 2009 models. No where close.

2009 Kia Sportage - constant drivetrain problems, blown speakers, seat belt failures, very cheap paint, etc...

2007 Kia Optima - decent daily but very "cheap" feel to the interior, was very loud at highway speeds, had no power for a V6 and was always in the shop for "minor" warranty work.

The Sonata I owned was a 2006. They have definitely changed quite a bit the last few years (2007 and then again in 2011) in regards to looks but I never had any issues mechanically or cosmetically and they have built a good reputation the last decade or so (didn't follow them prior to that).

It's entirely possible that it was just that dealership and perhaps they did make a large upgrade to quality after 2009, all I can speak to is what I've seen and that's all I was trying to offer the OP. I apologize if it seemed like I was attacking you

I was shopping the Optima and Sonata but bought a Chrysler 200 Touring V6. Leased, actually.

All the cars I drove are impressive drivers, from the base 4/6-speed Optima LX on up the line. That includes the Chrysler 200 Touring and Limited 3.6/283 HP.
The H/K cars rode a little more stiffly than my 2007 GXP.
The 200s drive as nicely, but are more comfortable road cars.

I've gotten 19.3 and 23.7 on the first two tanks. I've hit 30.5 on the highway using the trip computer. Just turned 500 miles.

They seem to be improving...atleast the "experts" over at Consumer Reports think so.

dum
The South Korean carmaker has been gaining US market share in recent years, and in the 2011 rankings its Kia Sorento ($26,590 to $32,390) became the "top pick" in the family SUV category. Last year's title in that group went to GM's Chevrolet Traverse. The Hyundai Elantra ($18,445) retained its slot as top pick in the small car category.

Seven Hyundai or Kia models gain additional applause from Consumer Reports as "best value" vehicles, a list of cars with a premium blend of affordability and reliability. For comparison, Toyota has the lead among all carmakers with 11 best-value rankings.
