my bird does that but if i put key in ignition the unlock button works again i think its a security feature so if t tops are off ppl cant just reach in and unlock it

I believe they have actuators that opens the door and no longer have a pull handle, so if the actuator went bad I can see this happening. He should have tried the passenger side door.
I would hope they would have some type of fail safe incase the actuator goes bad.

Correct. It's the LEVER on the floor with the DOOR OPENING icon on it. I can understand not knowing to look for it if you're test driving or have never been in a C6, but if you own one, it's pretty ******* obvious. Unless your head is up your ***.
There is also a door release pull in the trunk, in case the battery is dead. The only key lock is located just above the license plate, and there is a release for the door and the fuel filler. Both the floor release and the trunk release are cable operated, so there's no chance of locking yourself IN your car.
