I think the point of his post was the fact that the people saying the world was going to end today were "Christians." Since that is who he was talking about the Bible would be the source book for this specific date and subject. I am not here to get into a religious debate but simply pointing out why that book and religion was discussed in this thread.

Everyone has their own religious beliefs and all but the fact that the guy who predicted it says he used the Bible to come up with today's date means that the Bible can also be used to point out the fact that he is wrong.

That's all I have to say on the subject at hand.

thats kind of a sheepish response.
people centuries ago also thought bloodletting got rid of illnesses and there were dragons and witches. you going to let them decide for you as well?
i'm just saying, looking at the world today and what science has accomplished and proven about how we have evolved, why do you have 'faith' in one area like religion, and dont have faith in things like unicorns and loch ness monster? can you prove they aren't real?
its purely cultural, do you think you'd have the same mindset and beliefs if you grew up in 1970's India? sorry, no. you'd be hindu and think christianity was a load of BS because you knew no different.

yeh, evolution doesnt make any sense. the earth is only 4.5 billion years old. mutations could have never taken place in such a short time span.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/evoluti...lamanders.html
^ thats whats viewable within our lifetimes, imagine 4.5billion years.

what makes more sense is that a sky daddy made all of this in an instance, and he also gave his secret plan to a group of nomadic jews in bronze age middle east. i'm going with that option, because it seems like a great idea.

i dont have 'faith' in evolution. i'm presented the evidence because i can go to the museum, see radiometric dating, see things made over millenia like the grand canyon.
anyone can do that at any time.

now let me come over to your house and you show me how you can talk to a particular god, see prayers get answered, or see it do something to your life you had no involvement in. i'm waiting....oh yeah....never has happened in history.

In the beginning, we were all fish. Okay? Swimming around in the water. And then one day a couple of fish had a retard baby, and the retard baby was different, so it got to live. So Retard Fish goes on to make more retard babies, and then one day, a retard baby fish crawled out of the ocean with its...mutant fish hands... and it had butt sex with a squirrel or something and made this Retard frog-sqirrel, and then *that* had a retard baby which was a... monkey-fish-frog... And then this monkey-fish-frog had butt sex with that monkey, and that monkey had a mutant retard baby that screwed another monkey... and that made you!

as funny as this sounds its the truth on evolutionary theory on how humans were made as well as other species

evolution teaches that ALL life came from the same initial cell..... "where that 1st cell came from they dont know"

its called macroevolution *it has never been seen or proved, its just a theory* and this theory essentially says that variations within a genome create "differences" or in other words "deformed" offspring..... and that offspring "could" have had offspring with another "deformed" mate of its own specie and in doing so its offspring could create a new species within its genome..... as you see there are ALOT of could's and might have's and maybe's in there in order for any of this to work because it is NOT scientifically proven, its just assumed so its taught as fact

which explains the reasoning behind ALL the different animals from a shark to a squirrel to a dog to a human...... because evolution teaches since all life came from the same initial cell, in order for all the different varieties of life such as the shark, squirrel, dog and human we are simply just "deformed" offspring that created new species as it went along

THATS A HUGE ASSUMPTION WITHOUT ANY REAL EVIDENCE

that takes alot of faith

we can see microevolution, but in seeing that and assuming that macroevolution could happen takes just as much faith if not more than religion and macroevolution is taught as the 100% solid truth

and on the radiometric dating issue, that also takes just as much faith as religion and its also taught as the 100% truth..... the problem is it microscopically measures elements "assuming" the amount of those elements in the atmosphere are at a "certain %" and assuming the "% rate of decline" of those elements in order to come up with an age

these are "assumptions" because we weren't there to measure elements and the rate of decline before humans existed and verify therefore we can't know the actual level or rate of decline so we put an "educated GUESS" on it in order to problem solve & calculate age....... its all based off of a guess but yet its taught as fact

^Funny!
Laugh at people's "emperical data" regarding evolution. No one ever said that God created the Earth on a specific day in history, but there is absolutely no evidence that man evolved from any animal.
If you want to deal in historical facts, try this... The apostle Paul was an enthusiastic murderer of Christians as a Roman soldier. One day he was walking down the road on his way to murder some more of them when he said himself that he encountered a post resurrection Jesus on the road. Whatever happened, it was traumatic enough that he through down his sword, left the Roman army and became an Apostle, eventually sacrificing his life for the promotion of the truth of Jesus.
What do you think happened on that road?

religion is a joke and was a way to conform a mass society of people to try to live by a set standard of morals/ethics/standards. To help coerce people to do right and not wrong, and if you do, you will be rewarded an amazing afterlife. ala heaven

alas, this is a terribly short version, or awful cliffnotes if you will, but the down right fact is a lot can happen in a span of ~4.5 billion years time. It is unfathomable to most people as it means our life span on this earth is just a blink of the eye.

the laws of mathematics science depends on the notion that the universe is rational and mathematical at all levels, that every effect has a cause but how does rationality in mathetmatics arise from randomness? how do they come from matter?

the only reason we can do science is because there's an orderly world out there. who ordered the world?

What do you think happened on that road?
he was born in an obscure village the child of a peasant, he grew up in another village where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was 30 then for 3 years he was an itinerate preacher, he never wrote a book, he never held an office, he never had a family or owned a home, he never lead an army, he never travelled more than 200 miles from the place he was born. He did none of the things that usually accomplish greatness, he had no credentials but himself. he was only 33 when the tide of public attention turned against him. his friends ran away, one of them denied him. he was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. he was nailed to a cross between two thieves. while he was dying his exocutioners gambled for his garments, the only property he had on earth. And when he was dead he was laid in a borrowed grave by the pitty of a friend.

20 centuries have come and gone and today he is the central figure of the human race. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parlaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, all put together have not affected humanity on this earth as much as that one solitary life. if there was no resurrection how could this life be the most influential life of all time? was it just b/c a bunch of pias jews in jerusalem inexplicably decided to chuck judaism and fabricate a resurrection story so they could fulfil their dream of getting beaten, tortured, and killed? I don't see why they would do that. I think it takes more faith to believe that than to believe he actually rose from the dead.

true, all the crazy people that do all these bad things are doing what Christianity teaches NOT to do

those people are just as crazy as the real mass murderers in the world which are the atheist ones such as Sung, Pol Pot, Tojo, Hitler, Stalin, & Mao

which are behind 100's of millions of deaths.....
