Default is this 1980 Z28 worth bringing back to life?

i found a guy selling a 1980 Z28 rolling chassis, its missing the whole front clip as well as the motor and trans. the guy took my offer of 500 bucks for the car but i was wondering if it is worth it

i was thinking of doing a LTX or LSX based motor and T56 trans, i already have a re-built LT1 with 16k miles sitting in my garage from my old 97 Z28 that i sold so i was thinking of doing a LT1/T56 set up after i restored it a little first and change the paint to maybe white to match my 5th gen

so what do you guys think, is it worth the 500 bucks?

Depends on how much time and money you want to spend on it. I always liked the 2nd gen Camaros.

not that much but enough to get it in some what great condition for now lol, it would mainly sit until after i get my boat running again and even then it may sit longer, if i dont pick up a car (i really shouldnt but "want" to) im just gonna put the money into my boat and hope to have it running by this weekend

i also found an 1981 T/A that is complete minus motor for 950 OBO, i like it more since its mostly complete and i wouldn't have to worry about needing "small things" to get the front end done

Go for the TA- it doesn't have the shaker hood so a LT1 will fit nicely. It has all of the sheet metal which will cost you well over the difference to get on the Camaro.

Also- the value of late 2nd trans ams is almost double that of a Z28

TA also has t-tops, go for the TA for $450 more.

I agree. Go with the T/A. Worth more money and the extra sheet metal and completed front end is worth the 450 extra

My friend payed $500 for his z28 running but it was really rough. Go for the TA, if not then tell me where it is.

Oh boy, here we go again, jk. The ta is a better deal. The late 2nd gen camaro's are ugly imo. The ta look alot better and have more class to them. Finding a front clip will cost several hundred bucks. When I originally restored my 72 back in 96-98 you could find 2nd gens everywhere and cheap. You go go to pick a part and find 78-81's all day long and get doors, trim, etc for nickels and dimes. Now they are gone and if you find them the price has gone up. My vote is for the t/a. Do a ls1 t56 and have some fun with it. If you need any advice or help let me know. I did the swap into my 72 back in 06 when there weren't any bolt on ls1 swap parts available, now its much easier. Put a 350 in and call it a day so it's not sitting in a parking lot for 5 months .

i like the camaro better, 2nd gen camaros are probably my favorite body style. i also like that it is yellow and does not have t-tops plus you already have the camaro, my vote goes to the camaro.

I think the Z28 could be better as a finished product, but it will take a lot more work.

Does the car have an obd port on it? If so buy me a cheeseburger or two and I will scan it with hp tuners and see what everything is doing.
