FYI- You may file your taxes as married, Texas common law is ridiculous (6 months of living together and your done). HOWEVER***** Be aware that in the future to file them Single; you must get a divorce. So once you start filing it as a married filing joint; you will have to maintain. My wife and I did this before we got married and I got another $6200 back on my taxes.... she had all the write-offs and I had been raped by Uncle Sam... so yea, make the right decision

You must live together longer than 6 months AND consider yourselves married in public.
...such as introducing yourselves as husband and wife, claiming your taxes together, etc...
