Thanks, Probably should quote this again since it seems most in this thread missed this part. The regular N/A V8 will still be there as an option, also unless it comes from a GM press release take it with a grain of salt. Remember all the "reports/leaks" etc...about the Camaro getting a Turbo V6? See how that turned out?

Besides, Years ago the Corvette had a Inline 6 in it so not like they have never tried new things before.

I have personally seen 3.0 inline 6's put down 1,200+ rwhp, far more then most "muscle cars" will ever dream of attaining. I see nothing wrong with this configuration, just a bunch of antiquated thinking and maybe a bit of nostalgia.

And I have seen v8's that put down 8,000hp. Yes I am refering to a race engine but so are you. What is the relevance?

I don't think this is GM messing something up. Most of the manufacturers are scrambling to figure out how to meet the 2016 CAFE fuel economy standards. Some other engine options have to be coming down the pipe. I wonder if any of the current V8s can survive. I think a turbo V6 is possible as an option in the Vette (which is OK for the midlife crisis model) and I bet some type of 4 cylinder is in the Camaro future. A smaller boosted V8 sounds good in this way of thinking. I get to talk to some GM guys occasionally and CAFE has been their main concern for a couple of years now. Change is coming. But hey, if these kind of things did not happen we would still be driving old school V8s instead of our LSx engines.

DI twin scroll TT 4.8 LSx motor all aluminum would be awesome. gm alredy uses this tech in one vehicle or another. source the turbos from the ecotec motors. instant spool, higher scr capabilty. improved mpg over large ci n/a engine.

I'm talking about the stock block, upgraded internals and a larger turbo, not exactly a "race engine". During the TX2K--, Supras from all over the country drive to Houston, some from more then a 1,000 miles away then run races on the track, street and get dyno tested then make the voyage back home. Truly bad *** street cars.

i'd actually like to see gm make this power plant. just not in a vette. i think it would've been the perfect power plant for the solstice/sky.

I think it was only a matter of time, now if they do a mid engine...

F1 V8 engines are limited to 2.4L, 98mm bore, they still make 700-800 HP NA...of course they are spun to nearly 19K RPM...

and are run on race gas, and have tolerances so tight that they have to be heated thoroughly before cranked to avoid seizing.

anybody seen the episodes of top gear with the old renault f1 car
simply amazing, totally mind blowing.

details....details That was a great episode with the R25, old breed!!! I love F1, but I do miss the old V10 and V12 power plants, nothing sounds better than a V10 screaming flatout thru eau rouge at spa.

The FIA has mandated the teams develop 1.6L turbo 4 cylinder engines for 2013, should be interesting. I just hope F1 does not become a total spec series like the IRL crapwagons..

2nd time I've seen an article on this in a week. Aimed at euro market and people into euro styled hi reving engines, and they will still have the big V8's. Seems reading comprehension is frowned upon here.

frankly, I'd like to see it... but I find it hard to believe GM dumping all this R&D money into the LSx motors only to throw them all out for something completely different

ALSO

While Reuss and other senior executives have declined to discuss plans for the next Corvette publicly...
thats all you need to know... Yahoo is nothing but speculation

It'll be ok, i remember guys flipping out when the ls1 came out. Everyone was like oh the aluminums weak, thats why theres 6 bolt main caps, ya da da. Now look, the ls1 was a hero to us.

but anyways I work at a dealership that is number 2 in for corvette sales and we heard threw the wood work that wont be mid engine, perhaps not even turbocharged, but it will be smaller displacment in SOME models. I heard 5 liters and around 500hp? Were see though. What i was bummed out about is the fact that the ls7 is near its end and the 7.0l will be lost and were go smaller cubes, but in return i heard they will still be larger and more powerful engines then recent years availible.
