No one ever wants to talk about how bad for the environment the batteries in these cars are to produce. Lets just talk about how bad oil is.

Also cant wait till these cars become more mainstream and the average joe that owns one tries to fix a problem them selves and gets killed. The nice little pink pony in the fairy tail you were brain washed to get just kicked your ***.

Who wants to bet osama gets some form of campaign money from gm?

I imagine there was more to the conversation than what was in the article, but his basic idea makes complete sense. You have to understand that the gov't fuel economy standards(CAFE) that GM, Ford, etc have to meet are weighted on sales. GM can make a car that gets 80mpg, but if they sell (1) 80mpg car for every (2) 16mpg Silverados, they will never meet federal standards.

The CEO is saying that an increase in tax will force Americans to buy more fuel efficient cars and less trucks. Disregard the fact that a huge increase on top of current gas prices would cripple many hard working Americans, it would make it easier for GM to meet its gov't standards because higher cost fuel will drive up economy car sales. From a business perspective, GM could do absolutely nothing, spend no money on R&D, no new technology, no better equipment, and see a real increase in its CAFE rating by having a government increase in tax. Good for profits, terrible for PR.

And just because someone will misunderstand my point, I think increasing the gas tax is a terrible idea.

Thats a good explanation and exactly why GM has this stance its just a tuuurrraable(charles barkley voice) idea for the economy and regular working guy. If that happened we would go in to a full depression, 4 bucks is the long-standing ceiling for gas prices. The US could not economically survive 4.5+/gal then they wouldnt be selling any cars because no one could afford them.

I really hope this new CEO isnt around long, he hasnt be in his position long and Im already tired of his idiotic decisions.

I know the battery systems in Toyota hybrids can cost up to 10,000.00 for the complete system that's almost another car payment on top of it.

Want that "cammed" sound? Have it programmed into the tune.

This has to be straight from the CEO in Chief's office. This is the same crap Al Gore was spouting off before he decided to run for Pres.

How about building fewer gas guzzling trucks and SUV's? If there are fewer made, fewer will be sold. GM hasn't been the same since the bail out. They're little more than a pawn for the socialists now.

And that Mustang with the lope "tuned" in is as cheesey as fake BOV's.

Considering it's part of a tune that also gives you 20-25rwhp, I'd say it's not cheesy. I don't see it as any different than adding aftermarket mufflers to get a cooler sound out of your car since it doesn't really add or subtract any hp.
