can he even do that? I know at my store (Academy) we as workers would get into alot of trouble if we touch a customer, follow them or take their belongings.

Yes, if the cops were called, I am willing to bet that he would have a lot of explaining and a possible lawsuit on his hands.

Nope, Loss Prevention has authority to detain people and bring them back the store by force until the Police arrive. I used to work at Foleys many years ago and our Loss Prevention department would routinely tackle and handcuff people when they tried to run or leave the store. Remember the parking lot is still the store property as well.

LP can reasonably detain people meaning handcuffs or locking them in a room, but as far as im aware they're not allowed to tackle or fight the customers lol.

this guy went a little overboard i think, but maybe she shouldnt have stolen in the first place. your friend probably shouldnt have gotten into it either, just complicates things. kinda funny though
