if it's such an easy fix, why would an insurance company total it? (i'm guessing it's a write off, i don't know though)

I agree. The radiator looks like it is pushed back and the intake tubing is deviated to the right. How did the hood get all chewed up like that if it was hit just in the side? It's gonna need more than just cosmetic stuff.
