79 trans am question
a friend of mine stubled upon a 79 trans am that is brownish/goldish 6.6 liter with the oldsmobile 403 motor in it. it has 40 original miles, no that is not a typo it really has 40 miles on it. everything is as is as it came from the factory. do know much about the past owner and why it only has 40 miles. but anyways, the body is in GREAT shape, paint is in damn good shape just really dusty (been sitting in a barn for 30+ years). car is in perfect shape, not sure if it runs or not, should though. going to work on it tomorrow. if this car runs. just a ball park about how much would it be worth?
everything is original, they only thing missing is the right rear part of the spoiler and they lost the title. there is no rust on it at all!
also this is not a retardedpenguin thread im 100% serious.

Is that a required disclaimer now?
My first two camaros were brownish/goldish. A '78 Z28 and a '79 Berlinetta. I actually saw one today that looked just like the '78 which I owned between ~'87-'90. As far as price goes...???

Back then, ODO rolled to 99,999 and went back to zero.
4 speed? WS6? T-Tops? Those are the collector cars.
Otherwise, they'll fetch $8-10K in decent shape.
You can get the spoiler piece from Year One.
Stored in a barn? I'd bet there are a few electrical gremlins due to mice using it for a condo.
Double the paper gaskets under the carb. The mating surfaces didn't have very tight tolerences.
Rust was most commonly found at the point of the rear glass on either side.
Doors are stupid heavy. Consequently, the hinge pins wear out really fast causing the door not close easily.

Brake will need to be reworked. I bet the fluid has all kinds of moisture in it.
Perfect paint (if not redone) supports the 40miles. If the odometer rolled the paint and interior would show the wear. Not having the title makes me wonder if it was stolen way back when. He better check the vin for that before buying. I have a friend that got a clean 3rd gen from a barn. The guy that had it died akd the family just parked it IIRC. Fortunatley only rodent action was a nest under the hood.

He checked the vin at work n it was clear. The odo was not messed with. I'll try n get some pics later. As far as paint, it's in good shape for being 32-33 years old. It's not shiny or anything but the paint is all there. The carpet is dirty. I'll snap some pics after I get off of work.

If it truly has 40 miles then it is worth some cash depending on brakes, rust, etc. The person that is going to pay 25k for a low mileage car doesn't want to have to go through it.
Is it solar gold or the root beer color? Solar gold is much more desirable.
All 403's in 79 were autos. If it is solar gold the T tops should have a gold tint (this may have been '80 only).
My 79 10th anniversary trans am has original paint on the hood and it is not that shiny. Mine has 25k on the clock and was stored outside for a few years at one point.
Look at plug wires- should say GM and/or Packard. Look at fan belts- should say GM. Should have single cat exhaust and cross flow muffler at back

Got it running today, had to replace the gas tank cause the oe one had a massive hole in it. It runs rough, I think all it needs is a carb rebuild plugs n wires and a lot of tlc. It is the root beer brown. Oh and the window sticker is still on the window. Msrp was $9,1**. Pretty crazy!

i dont have pics of the barn or anything like that. this is my friends car, i know it sounds weird and unbelieveable but im not lying or bull shitting. here is the only pic i got today it was last minute. the paint is not as shiny as it looks int he pic cause it's all wet. when it dried its kinda faded and there is paint that is messed up for whatever reason but you get the overall picture. when we dropped the gas tank there was a paper wedged inbetween the tank and the car and when i went to get it, it tore a little bit but it looked like a sheet with all the RPO codes on it. i wish it didnt tear it was a pretty cool find.

That sheet on top of the gas tank (a common spot is also on the back of the rear seat cushion) was the build sheet describing the RPO's.. I would save it even though it is torn. Collectors want those as documentation.

Make sure when you close the hood that you push it back toward the windsheild first. Don't just try and push it down because it will bend and crack the sides of the hood in front of the hinges. Those hoods are huge and like mitch said, the doors are really heavy and long.
