Well is the car under 100K? If so, you have a good chance they will fix it. Most of the parts will come from the junk yard. I had an incident and the passenger front fender, wheel well and front fender was replaced and painted. It cost about $2,300. So this will be an easy 4K and up.

So I am talking with a lawyer about possibly going after him. My question is can I try to get extra money from my car being I had so much money/time into it?

If you had it insured for the mods or extras.

Not much unless you had insurance for those extra's as stated above.

Why are you talking to a lawyer? I would wait until you feel you need one. They get a decent cut of the $$$. Unless you feel like you are stuck with the ins company and a lawyer will be able to get you enough more money to justify their expense, I wouldn't go that route.

You need to go to the doctor if you hurt and see what is going on. you may need some physical therapy, etc. Do not sign anything for at least 6 months. Make sure any pain /soreness is gone and there are no underlying problems.

I was talking with them when I was hurt, but I feel better now. I just wanted to make sure I had all my grounds covered.

Just had very similar damage to my car in Nov. Insurance totaled it. Take the money and fix it yourself.

Before signing the check....

look everywhere (Ebay,NADA,KBB) and see what a car like yours is going for. Then tell the Ins. Company you want "replacement value" (of course if it's higher than the check).
They tried to total my 68 out at $9000 or so since it was only insured for $10K...after I stopped laughing and telling them I want the replacement value ($20K) and they checked it out....My car was fixed
Good luck and if they push... Lawyer up and get his $$$ sued for too

Man that sucks, sorry. Would the cost of buying it back be more than the parts on it are worth? Just food for thought.

If you buy it back you are going to have to go through the BS of getting a salvage title and all the hassle of getting it re registered. Get enough out of them and step into a new SS.

you would have to be crazy to not buy the car back IMO, subframes are on craigslist all day long for a few hundred bucks, or take the opportunity to upgrade to a tubular k-member. if you did the work yourself, got a tubular k-member, a good used clip and OEM hood, im sure you could be back on the road for less than half of what they estimated the damage to be...just sayin
