Default Picked me up a new ride

I've always wanted a Lightning but really never came across a good deal on a white lightning until yesterday.

2001 Oxford White Lightning. First impression I honestly can't believe how good of a ride this truck has, tightness in steering, actually hard to believe your actually driving a pickup truck. Bone stock all the way down to the paper filter. I can't wait to do similiar mods I did to my 04 Cobra, but am seriously thinking of ditching the eaton for a home brewed front 88mm setup.

Thought you were building a turbo ls fox? I have heard the lightenings have weak connecting rods. They were not forged from what I remember

Who said I wasn't still building that? AND I guarantee it will last longer than a month which is double what your motor lasted..

I really don't know about the rods. This is just a new daily driver I picked up to beat up on other trucks. Little here and there to make it bit nuttier.

Sure it is. Never run a motor if you know oil pressure is low, common sense brother. But I build my own **** so I don't have to worry about that.

Yeah me too. Miss the old days of the Silver Zoh against my 04 Cobra behind DDN. I still remember jumping my cobra on that dip.

Doug is right.. the '02-'04 ones were the ones to get.. they changed something after the '01 model year.
I thought it had something to do with the heads though..
I'll ask my buddy that works at a Ford house, he told me when I was looking for one before I bought the yellow car. Still want one..

Welcome to the fold - these trucks can be addictive ( I now have 2 of them). The rods on these things are definitely a weak link and don't hold up too well when you mod past 450rwhp. Also, the pre-2003 versions only had 4 thread heads while the mid 2003 models through 04 had 8 thread heads. Unless the plugs are properly torqued down on the 2 thread heads, it's common to launch a plug which will then require Timeserts - keep your ears open for what sounds like a tap around the valve covers. Best safe mods for a stock block are a 4# pulley, a good CAI and exhaust - will give around 400 rwhp and be a blast to drive.

Thanks guys for the info. I don't know a whole lot about what to look out for and such, just the basics. Sounds strong, no super strange noises but have noticed a slight, almost like diesel truck noise at idle from the dash area (not heard from under hood). Haven't layed into yet due to where i bought it they filled it up with 87 I did however get a fantastic deal on this truck, actually TTL and all was just a tad bit more than what I spent building a turbo for my SS.

Anyways, so far its one of my favorite so far. I have seen some very nasty pictures of these trucks lowered a bit, sitting on some bogarts with a white cage. But for now I'm just gonna enjoy a clean good running truck for a while and don't care about gas mileage as I have no payment on it.

Stock power ratings increased from 360 hp/440 torq to 380 hp/450 torq in 2001
Stock rear gear ratio shortened from 3.55:1 to 3.73:1 in 2001
Redesigned the leaky intercooler in 2001
Stock drive shaft upgraded from 3.5-inch steel to 4.5-inch aluminum in 2001
Stock Monroe shocks upgraded to Bilstein in 2002
"5.4 spark plug blow-out" from the lack of sufficient spark plug threads was addressed and fixed in 2003
Stock cargo capacity was increased from 800 lb to 1,350 lb in 2003
The stock steering was upgraded and retuned for better on-center feel and reduced lash in 2003

Nice truck .... I sold my '03 Sonic Blue in 2010 to get back into a drag car with a "tow truck" ... my current SS and a RCSB Silverado, but the Silverado morphed into an H2.
