state inspection question would having the ABS INOP light on the dash fail the car? I had my car inspected last year with the light on and it passed. Have they changed the criteria this year?
Coming from a state inspector ie me, it must have been a rookie doing it. Take it back and talk to the service manager and tell him what happened. Abs is not standard equipment and cannot fail a inspection because of it.
just because the abs light is on does not mean the cars brakes do not operate properly. Tell them to grab there inspection manual(they have to have one) and show you where it fails, otherwise they owe you a free sticker if they charged you for the physical inspection. Also a law in the book. Been doing inspections for 8 years now unfortunately lol. They are wrong and probably wanted to get some money out of you for unnecessary repairs since you were unaware of the laws.

and if they don't help you (which they should once they realize their mistake) then threaten to call the dps haha... they should just have to do a simple reinspection and pass the brake system and you're good to go as long as it's within 15 days i believe, otherwise they will try to charge you again

Verdad Gallardo Does the check engine light work? Is it on also? Anytime you get a misfire code in a newer GM the ABS INOP light comes on. But you would have the CEL on also assuming it works, this is the only reason why an ABS inop light would fail you and it actually has nothing to do with ABS.

the ABS light is on because I put a 9" in and didn't want the TCS or ABS added to it. I looked into removing the light bulbs, but it looks like they are soldered into the printed circuit.

Put black electrical tape over it. Take the cluster apart and find what lights you don't want to see and do this to it.
The machine will detect that the MIL(check engine light) is on. I can't tell you how many times people tried to pull the bulb or cover it in the 3 years I was inspecting cars.
