Gear heads, why do they still use a manual stick transmission in these cars? Wouldn't air or just an auto geared right be better? And they all seem to take off slow when every foot counts. Hell, the Camaro takes the time to compress the clutch all the way while getting off the gas completely to shift.

Both cars are stupid fast, getting a camaro to go that fast is far more impressive IMO

Mile racing is NOT drag racing. Every foot does NOT count. Hard launches do NOT matter. Both of these cars are over 200 mph at the half mile mark. This is just a sheer fight against wind resistance, overcoming drag with raw horsepower. It has nothing to do with launching or quickness. What matters is how the car performs during the second half of the mile.

I had to work through this one so I missed this but damn!

Congrats on making a full size Camaro go 253 in the mile Steven and Josh and all the rest of the guys at LMR and LME. You guys easily have more power than anyone out there to say the least! Very impressive.

Congrats to Hennessy as well for breaking the record in their GT and bringing the title back to an American car too!

Forgot to congratulate Mr. Bise as well as the guy behind the car! You have a damn serious Camaro and aren't far from a car half your car's height! Very impressive. It figures it's one I missed. Maybe next time there will be yet another new record.

Congrats to lmr and the ford gt. Good news is none of the cars were hurt at the end of the weekend. G-Force , LMR and the Hennessy GTs motors live to fight another day!

Congrats as well Mike, It's getting pretty damn crazy when 243 isn't fast but of course it still is in reality!

As many Mile pulls that I have done I completely disagree.

take it to an extreme and see if your logic stands...............

roll to the half mile at 20 mph then hit it until the Mile marker. I GUARANTEE your Mile speed will be less than if you hit it like a 1/4 mile pass all the way down.

I will agree the first half isn't as important as the second half, but every foot DOES count. I have missed shifts in the first half mile and my terminal speed was MUCH lower than when I hit it like a 1/4 all the way down.

The Mile record has been a Ford GT since Mach 2010 when a white GT in Miami did 252.9. Texas Mile record is a different story.

Wasn't the Miami speed looked down upon due to faulty timing equipment?
or was that speed somewhere around 265?

That was when Ray Hoffman smashed the record, which they found the calibration of the equipment off and they didn't honor the record.

He did 266 but they were saying the equipment was 10-15mph off.
