Default What do shops normally charge for a pcm unlock?

I was quoted $100 yesterday to unlock a pcm from a very reputable (nonsponsor) dyno shop just yesterday. I'm really pretty pissed about it and feel like I am getting fucked in the *** without lube or a kiss first. What do yall think?

I know the owner of the shop, although not very well, so I sent him a pm about it yesterday. I havent gotten a reply yet but we'll see what he can do for me.

PCMforless charges 75 bucks, once unlocked they return it to stock calibration as well. Do you know who did the original tune, able to contact them?

WOW! The shop that tuned it wants $100 to unlock it? Were you the original buyer of the tune? [Did they disclose or have your permission to lock it?] Who are they?

Brick through the front window?

Seriously, a shop that locks PCMs will never tune any of my cars.

That is what it cost me 5 years ago to get my PCM unlocked. They basically have to remove it, flash it, then put it back which is a real pita, so basically your getting charged a hour labor, and rightfully so.

ironically, you were the one that unlocked my PCM. Remember the Red TA w/ HRE's? Remember, it was tuned by Ed Wright (by the previous owner), and he likes to lock the pcm.

Curious as to why it has to be removed from the vehicle?

This was the same shop that originally tuned the car and yes I was the purchaser of the tune.

Did gforce unlock your pcm that someone else had locked? If thats the case then $100 is a reasonable price. And why does it have to be removed from the car? They told me not to bring it down loose because they wouldnt be able to do anything with it.

I'm not going to say which shop it was although it is posted in another thread.

Also I just want to add that Pat G reflashed the pcm I gave my brother as a replacement to a stock 02 m6 from a 2000 a4 for free. He also diagnosed all the issues the car had after the 6.0 swap and wouldn't take any money for it, even though he had yet to be paid for the tune.

Just buy another pcm if thats the case. I sale you a stock pcm for $100 shipped. I think wait4me unlocks them alot cheaper than $100.
