Transocean is a good company to be with and they are hiring at the moment. You will go in as a roustabout but depending on your work ethic and how quickly you pick up the job you can move up fast. I have seen people move up in as little as two hitches. Most rigs are starting to go to the 21/7 rotation due to the fuel costs on the birds though. Since is sounds like you are looking for a career change I would suggest safety.

For oil field services. Cement and Coil Tubing is where money is at. Ballic say hey to Boone Morris(management). I personally like halliburton and their equipment. I do tools also. Coil does EVERYTHING down hole. I make about 4500 take home every two weeks(after taxes). But I've been doing this a while. Either way you go. Become more than just a hand! I cant stand it to see a worker wasting my time sitting around all day. Its great to see a hand go find something to do. And not ask what there is to do.

But yea the oil field is pretty complex, the only thing most people can't hack are the hours away from the fam, but hey your with 30 other guys more than you are with your own kids and wife. These guys are your fam. I love my job but I wouldn't mind having a be home everynight job. Baalic what area you from? I'm in the south Texas area out of the Alice yard.

Im out of the Pampa yard here in the Panhandle.

Noob here. I've never worked for the oil/gas field, but I'm looking to get into it. I've been working on cars since '07 and been strictly high end European the past 4 years, but I'm looking to change careers. Can anyone help me out as far as getting into the business. I'm not sure what I want to do, but at this point, I don't really care what it is.

Yeah, I did, but I'm just not familiar with the terminology, so I'm kinda lost.

I'm 22 and have only been with Halliburton for a little over two years in the Alvarado yard but have turned wrenches for them
In KS, OK, TX, LA, and now in ND it really is up to you how much you wanna make I've never been denied my days off and I pulled 120K last year workin in the bitter north lol I bring home 3500-4000 after taxes every 2 weeks and that's with 14% going into a 401K and idk if it's ironic or not but 90% of all the companies we frac cement or whatever for the company men always seemed to have work for Halliburton lol

I work for XTO Energy. We are owned by Exxon now, so the pay is awesome. They have many varieties of jobs. Examples are plant operators, compressor mechanics, lease operators (pumper), and field and pipeline operators. The website is www.xtoenergy.com. You can apply for jobs through the website.

Exxonmobil.com has other job postings as well, including offshore. They work 28 on, 28 off on the offshore rigs.

Good luck!
