Some of you guys are too young to remember the early glory days of boom. I was heavily into car audio back in 1988-92. Back then, the amp brands to get were:

HiFonics
Rockford Fosgate "Punch"
Orion

Old school! This was before JL Audio was even known about.

For head units, Alpine was the popular brand. Anything else and you were a poser. lol

i didn't get into car audio until around '94-ish, but i still remember all those brands....could never really afford them at the time, but i remember them....

also, my first 2 head units were Alpine.....and honestly, i coulda done without them. don't get me wrong, they sounded good and all....but neither one of them lasted longer than 2 years, and one of them was an $800 unit that was clearanced & marked down to $500, so it wasn't just the entry-level ones, either.

i've had my cheap-*** Panasonic head unit that cost me only around $160 or so for about 6 - 7 years now, and it's still rocking strong. i do wanna get a new one soon, tho, with bluetooth built into it so i can stream music off my phone without messing around with cables & ****, and one that can control my Sirius satellite radio (screw FM )
