Bolt a pd blower on it. Or get a stock lq4 longblock. 6.0 swap would make most sense and most economical.
Bolting in a longer duration cam will not help.in the 5.3. Unless the heads are milled to raise compression.
6.0+bolt ons+tune will significantly improve it.

the stock 5.3 blows, get a trailblazer SS intake, some headers and maybe a ls6 cam or a bit bigger cam and a tune and it will be fine.

Will the 5.3 heads bolt up to 6.0 short block? Or are there PTV clearance issues?

LS6 cam will shift your power band to the right away from the torque you want.

Everything that will work on a 5.3 will work on a 6.0. I wouldnt recommend bolting the 5.3 heads(862) to the LQ4 simply because they dont flow nearly as well the 6.0 heads(317). Lugging all that weight a 6.0 swap would definitely be the right thing to do. Along with a cam around 210/214 on a 112lsa. After that Id do headers, the TBSS intake is a nice swap but would be one of the last things Id do. Swap first with a cam, then headers.

Id recommend going over to performancetrucks and looking around.

"supposed" to flow better. "supposed" to be the ls6 version of truck manifolds does have a 90mm tb bore.

Maybe I'm thinking of the L92 heads on the 6.0 but I know there's a killer budget combo for reliable n/a power with a flat torque curve.

A rock crawler and trailer should come in far less than 10k...

OP if you have some cash to throw at it then a magnacharger simply cant be beat for towing and longevity. Both my father and uncle have one on their trucks, one on a 2500hd and the other on a 1500. My fathers truck had 100k miles on it when supercharged and he sold it with 208k and my uncles was also supercharged around 100k, it now has 190k+. Both have/had the stock motors with no supercharger rebuilds, only problem was transmissions dying. The maggies also cant be beat when it comes to the fun to drive factor.

I gave up trying to tow my race rig with my 2010 Sierra with the 5.3 - poor acceleration and horrible gas mileage. Picked up a low miles 2001 F250 7.3 PSD and got it all - great power and MUCH better fuel mileage, plus the extra weight of the tow vehicle makes everything more comfortable and controllable.

For the money you will spend on the 6.0, blower, trans etc.

Sell the truck, pickup a used Dmax, throw in a 60 to 80 HP tune..... Done!
