Default Epoxy Garage Floor

Anyone know of a good contractor to do this in Katy area? I would do it myself but I don't want it to peal up first time I drop something on it.

Go to home depot and buy the kit, follow instructions closely. My dad did this on his garage floor that was 7 years old, had all kinds of nasty stuff on it and hasnt' peeled yet.

Protip: It's too hot to do this now. You'll get maybe 10 minutes of working time with a batch before it starts to harden. Once that happens, you'll get lumps in your floor.

Yea thats why I was looking for a contractor to do it because its to dang hot out. It may be a fall project. I really like the looks of that ucoatit.com product. My garage is about 500sq ft. so 1 kit should be enough.

here is my floor...

i used the stuff from Sherwin Williams. the good stuff they have, i forgot the name but you can ask the sales guys. two coats of it and then a coat of clear. its around $100 a gallon. i used two gallons each time so 6 total. i just had my painter do it..he just rolled it on just like paint...i waited a day in between each coat.

i have seen the cheap stuff and i think this stuff is so much better and will last for a long time...its thick and doesn't really scratch. its really bonded to the floor, not like the cheap stuff that was just painted on and will peel off.. i dragged my jack around and it only leaves some swirl marks. i guess that was my mistake for using black. i would recommend this stuff, but in the silver color!!!!!!!!!

This gives you some idea of what mine looks like

And this is what happens when it sets up too quickly:

My dad and I did the first two bays in a weekend, then I let that harden for a week before I drove on it. Once the week went by, I moved the car over and did the last bay. Everything blended in really nicely. I did one full kit and a touch-up kit, to make sure I got even coverage. There are a few spots where I didn't clean the concrete well enough, and the epoxy wouldn't adhere, but I went over those enough times that they at least have some protection.

Application is a little odd. You pour out some product, then spread it around with a squeegee. Once it's spread, you roll it, to smooth it out. Finally, toss the color chips, which provide traction when it's wet. I highly recommend this step, as I didn't do it when I did this at the old house, and the floor become a slip-n-slide at the first sign of water.

i did u-coat-it. house was built in 1976, and had all kinds of oil and paint spilled on the floor. i spent a lot of time doing the prep work, and i'm going on 5 years now with no issues with peeling.

only 'issues', is that its scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. dragging a floor jack around will gouge it up. also, its chemical resistant as long as you wipe it up relatively quickly. i was working on my 3rd gen over the course of a month, and i got some anti-freeze trapped under my rhino ramp, and it stained.

Default Epoxy Coat from Lowes

Dude,

If you want epoxy coat, order the kit from Lowes, it is special order only. I put it down myself and it was damn bitch. I did a great job on one side, and then a cold front came through and dried the air and removed the humidity in the air. I did not expect the epoxy to set as fast and I had to sand it for week because as soon as it hit the floor, I could not spread it. It does not come up once it is down.

So when I had to order a new kit, the color was off a tad so heads up and this is known but the company will tell you until you order a different batch of the same color.... My 2 cents is to have a pro do it. Let me know if you want a pic.

When you get the paint chips dirty, they seem to stay that way. But I love the epoxy, it is some bad *** ****!

I did my own with U-coat it 2 car garage was like 500$ after the discount cards i had (100$ off) holding up well , no pealing 6yrs later. I also did the clear, fleck and grit for traction - if you dont you will bust your A$$ when its wet! trust me its sliprier thans a whales D&%k I also added vinyl graphics under the clear - it ads a nice touch but put them down before the grit do it yourself when it cools off and save the $

I got a quote today and with warranty they want $900. I dont think that is a bad deal and I dont have to do any work. haha. If I am looking to spend $500 to do it myself and then another 10-15hrs of work in this blaze then I dont think I mind spending $900.

I like doing my own things at the house but I want this done completely right the first time.

Another option that does not involve epoxy or prep or any of that. I'm looking into do my garage (21 x 25) here in the next couple of weeks.

Let us know how it turns out. My garage is about the same size and I like that price.

I used the gray rustoleum kit in our old house and was very happy.

I went with tan in this garage and am not pleased at all. I bought the glossy finish and it is not glossy at all- always looks dirty.
